I just hope the launch is in October. No one is off at all in October (at least right now) so whatever the day is, I'll be able to take off. As soon as it's announced tomorrow, if it is, I plan on taking off. Unless it's released before a game I want is out. Main game I am getting is BF4 and possibly Watch Dogs.

If PS4 releases on Oct 21st, maybe the release day for those games will be moved up.

That would be the absolute best case scenario and I hope that comes true! It's been 8 years.

Sorry to fall away from release date talk, but does anybody know the extent of BC that the PS4 features?

Basically, my PS3 YLOD'ed, and before I consider trying to fix it or sending it in for a refurbished PS3, I want to know what I can do to still be able to play PS3 games on my PS4.

As I understand it, discs won't function. But with Sony and Gaikai working together, are they working on some sort of method to be able to purchase a slew of PS3 games that will be playable on the console? Maybe even games bought in the PSN store, or if you have proof of purchase you can be slightly discounted?

The only thing I need to be able to do is play GTA V and The Last of Us after the PS4 launch date, whether or not it can be played on PS4. That's what I'm trying to figure out now before I further proceed with anything here.

Talk about the irony of having it crash and burn on me after saying I can wait for a next-gen console, though!

Sounds like the Sony Gods are punishing you for saying you were going to wait for next gen.

Funny they would do that, since I imagine they'd love for people to hold off as long as possible and continue to support their current-gen products, provided they would actually upgrade in the eventual future.

If they did that to make me convert, now they've all but suspended any want or opportunity to invest in anything current-gen related for the rest of... forever!

The only thing that I know that's been said/explained is that BC will work via streaming from the Gaikai service.

How it will cost or be set-up has not yet been detailed as far as I know.

Sometime in 2014 maybe we'll get something through Gaikai that will stream old games (I think, they haven't detailed this as far as I know).

So for the foreseeable future we won't be having BC on either console.

Am I right, experts here? It all gets confusing since they're not releasing all online and other info yet.

All they've said is they'll try and make digital purchases "playable in some form" - no other information is really available about BC (http://www.edge-online.com/news/psn-...ansfer-to-ps4/) other than it won't be available until sometime next year (http://www.techradar.com/us/news/gam...t-year-1158049). I don't think anyone really expects it to be a free service either, so remains to be seen if that'd be a buffet-style or (more likely because it'd be more lucrative) you'd have to repurchase games title-by-title.

At the moment I wouldn't consider this a lot more than fan service, it could be about as successful as one of the many Vita programs (cross-play, cross-buy, etc) and limited to a selection of first party titles and a couple of initial interested third parties.

It's certainly nothing I'd pin hopes on, but could end up being really cool if done right.

Tomorrow we finaly will get a release date for ps4. I cant wait for ps4(next gen ) to drop. Will be spending alot of cash in november.
Had my ps preodered with m25 and watch dogs.

But preodered assasins creed 4 yesterday to, not a big fan of the ac series just a big fan of pirate theme game. And im really hope that maybe another developer or ubisoft will make a stand alone pirate rpg/roleplay type of game.
Seeimg how cool the sea battles and ships look on sea It would gove so many options for that
But yea heres just one hoping

I'm okay with a one-time or yearly Gaikai subscription or something if that means I can use my disc-based games and DLC in my system.

I think those all depend on how expansive/inclusive the service is. A buffet-style system would be great, but is it realistic?

I think mgoblue put it best. There's no BC. There's a service coming out in 2014 to offer previous gen games. When thinking of it that way I'd lean much heavier on #1 being the case. At best PSN+ might give you access to a revolving slate of games in an effort to get you to purchase them a la full game trials.

There are a lot of logistics here. Sony's got to recoup their acquisition costs, and they've got to pay royalties on games they want to redistribute/resell. These are things that are probably easier to smooth over with first party titles.
