Thanks for the input guys. Money isn't an issue, so its not like I "need" to cancel it. The only thing that scares me about the preorder is the return policy if it isn't working when I get back. It will stay unopened in my house, but I'm pretty sure return policies start the minute you walk out of the store (not when you open the box).

How long are you gone? If you won't be using it before you leave probably safer to just buy one when you get back....

Are the "launch" consoles going to be any different than those released in 2015? I know with the PS3, the originals had backwards compatibility (not a factor this generation) and a larger HDD. Basically, I'm asking to figure out whether or not the launch console will be any different than the one's available in late 2015. I have a preorder already, but just found out I'm deploying...so trying to figure out whether or not I should cancel my preorder. If I do cancel it, I'll buy one when I get back. What do y'all think?

I'm still trying to decide what I'm doing.

Now I know the PS4 releases three days after I ship out. It's going to be a long time before I can make much use out of it. I'll likely cancel my pre order.

It was wishful thinking on my part, but I wanted to continue living my life normal for as long as possible. I may still hold on to the pre order until the time comes, just in case something unfortunate happens.

I don't like to think like that, but you never really know.

I'll be gone until late next year, so I agree with you. It may be a better option to buy one later and cancel my current preorder.

AUChase, you'll be able to get / use your PS4 right after basic training. Actually, you'll be able to use it a lot in AIT (or whatever your service calls it). All I did in AIT was train, eat, play PS2, sleep, repeat.

Multiplatform games were ported to the ps3 from the 360 leaving the Xbox version looking a little better. I wonder which will be the console that gets the ported version this time around?

Doesn't matter this time around. They both are using x86 architecture.

This was posted in the xbox thread earlier, not sure why it wasn't posted here yet.

cboat, a reputable poster over at neogaf, has said PS4 will launch late October.

I'm really hoping it's true, but it will only get confirmed tomorrow.

Looks like my source was right after all!

So many people were buying into cboat's cryptic posts over on NeoGAF (and with good reason, he was correct on a few things in the past), but apparently we had a poster here Curahee who had better and more accurate insider info hehe.

Maybe it's because of how much some of that dragged, but I thought that was a pretty uneventful presentation. This could have been a 'media briefing' too and we wouldn't have missed much.

Agreed, was pretty underwhelming. They could've dropped all that info in about 30 minutes. I enjoyed the post conference stream more than half of the conference itself.

They will look and play the same yes. They had completely different CPU's last time around that is why things were so different. This time around it will be the same. PS4 does have more raw power though. So their exclusives will look a little bit better.

Guerilla Games have announced that DLC for Killzone Shadow Fall will be free, to promote longevity and avoid splitting-up the playerbase between people who have it and people who don't. It's really awesome to see them come out and confirm all the DLC maps will be free, especially since both Killzone 2 & 3 received some excellent DLC content.

In an interesting move, they've also said that they're ditching the traditional XP system that other online shooters use, and instead making all weapons available to players as soon as they start playing the game (I am so glad to see a developer do this) and implementing a form of player progression via challenges.

Here are the alternate colored controllers.

Not as big of a fan of them as I usually am. I like darker colors. Think I'll stick with black.

I'm going to be all over that red one when they come out in North America.

Canceled mine too. But that's because I bought a 3DS. I'll pick one up next year when more games come out. Most after Infamous and The Show drop.
