I had a friend who has his in his cart, and when he tried to check out, no dice. Ouch.

Your Best Buy was doing it wrong.

I got there at 10 and there was about 17 people there. I got in line about 10:45 when I saw some Best Buy guys walk out. By then there was a good 35-40 people in line. They had preorder people form a new line (which was only about about 10 of us at the time. We paid off our system (I was #2) and they told us to go eat, walk around or whatever. I went to the car, watched an episode of Breaking Bad, got out of the car at 11:54. They had preorder people form a line first. Got back into my car at 12:01 with my PS4. Easy experience for me.

Mine was similar... Arrived around 11, saw a line outside. Walked up to the door and they asked me if I preordered, which I did, so they let me in. Payed everything off and waited in the store until they had us form 2 different lines (one for in store preorders, one for online preorders/the nonpreorders were still outside). Walked out with my system shortly after as they started funneling in nonpreorder people to form their own line.

Imagine if that actually took place in real life. You're at walmart and as you were checking out, someone grabs the ps4 out of your cart and self checks out.

Brother is playing battlefield while I wait for psn to come back up. Took 3 minutes to get my system,about the same to set it up and update it. Absolutely impressive.

Yessir. I didn't swap out my HDD so just the 300mb

Have you tried updating via a USB stick? If not, these are the instructions how to do it...
