Re: PC or Next Gen Console?

Yup it absolutely pays for itself.

Just for the heck of it,this year alone...

    X-Com $5 - Saved $37
    DMC $36 - Saved $32
Tomb Raider $36 - Saved $32 (technically...I bought the console special edition anyway)
    Borderlands 2 $16 - Saved $52
    Borderlands 2 season pass $12 - Saved $18
    Deadpool $35 - Saved $20
    GRID 2 $36 - Saved $32
    Dark Souls $7.50 - Saved $28
Joe Danger 1 + 2 $10 - Saved $20 (think they came with the DLC too so saved $30)
    Ride to Hell - $19 -Saved $21
    Dead Space 3 $1 - Saved $67
    Star Wars Pinball $3.50 - Saved $6.50
Earth Defense pinball fx table $1 - Saved $2
    Saints Row 4 $36 - Saved $32
    Omerta $7.50 - Saved $48

The numbers are odd because I'm including saving the tax. Probably missed a few too but that's $457.50 less than all that stuff would've been on the consoles. Might be off a couple of dollars too since I forget how much the tax actually is as it's extremely rare I buy a console game anymore.

Even if it is a next gen port you will still be fine with a mid level rig. People forget that the current gen consoles are equivilent to a low end pc. A perfect example is NBA 2K, with all the mods that are available, 2k13 already looks like next gen 2k14. The next gen systems arent really about huge leaps in graphics, they are more about giving developers more space to add more interactive content. Take Battlefield 4 for example, one of their big talking points from the footage they showed was the ability to bring down entire buildings, more open spaces, better particle effects. They just simply didnt have the space to pull that off on the current consoles. Another example Skyrim, check out nexusmods.com and tell me that skyrim doesnt look next gen with some of the mods that are available on pc. And you dont need a high end "gaming" pc to pull it off

Damn thing didn't even work on PC. Haven't even bothered trying again since they patched it.

Would also like to point out that only covers vs. console versions. Doesn't count all the sales I got on PC only games.

The sales are definitely the big advantage. I got Bioshock Infinite for $36 on release day. Tomb Raider for $12 this summer. Dead Space 1-2 for $5 total (still $20 each used on consoles). I have about 15 other examples of this as do most PC gamers who have took part in Steam sales.

I wouldn't waste your money on that rig at all. If you are getting it just for gaming and don't have the money to upgrade that video card right off the bat, then you would be best served with a new console. At the very least, you could find a 5850 to a 7970 used for anywhere from $100-$225 depending on the card. I really believe you would be disappointed in that computer with such a poor graphics card.

How is COD on the PC? Specifically the multiplayer. If I use a controller will I be able to keep up with the mouse and keyboards players? I'm guessing not. I know the mouse and keyboard is supposed to be better but I've just been using controllers for 20 years. That would really be the only thing keeping me from going PC. Don't really even play sports games that much anymore.

I'm sure CoD will be just fine with a controller on PC. Can't speak personally because I despise the series but M/KB being an advantage is something that gets thrown out there a lot with no basis in fact.

In older days when PC/Console games were separate that would be true. Anyone trying to play Counter Strike in the old days with a controller would get smoked. The games they come out with today are much more forgiving and (in many cases since they are multiplatform) built around using a controller. The PC FPS games took a nosedive that coincided with the rise of console FPS online multiplayer. I'd say that for the majority of FPS games today, using a controller puts you on even footing (if not a bit of an advantage, since the game mechanics aren't built around the precision of mouse/KB anymore.)

That's coming from a pretty hardcore PC gamer as well.

Thanks. Might have to go the pc route. Just not that many launch titles that interest me. I know there are quite a few older games I would play on the pc as well.

Re: PC or Next Gen Console?

The nice thing for me with having a console is just putting a game in and having it work without messing with settings and drivers and all that jazz. I have a powerful PC (7970 3GB and 12GB of RAM) but I'll be using it for PC exclusives only once the next gen consoles come out.

I hear it's full of rampant cheating and hacking.
So just like the 360 version without being cussed at by kids not even old enough to play the game.

Steam can auto update AMD drivers.
Far as settings...well that's part of the point. You should want to mess them. Want better performance, better looking etc.

Not for me. I play games to play games, not tinker in menus until fraps gives me a good enough number. It's not worth the hassle.

Think I'd rather play the second one.
