My kiddos have leap pads and are getting DSs this yr. we really liked the leap pads, esp for younger children like yours.

Sorry, not familiar with them, my 3.5 y/o son has had a Kindle Fire for more than a year though and loves it. I'm tiring of eroding performance and may upgrade him to a newer model, but no desire to leave something Android based for some future proofing rather than go with one of the kid-specific and therefore different ecosystem.

Kindle Free Time is pretty awesome though.

My kids had the Leappad for three years and have had the Leappad Ultra for the past two. My daughter is 7 and son is 6. They've learned a lot of stuff from the books, games, videos, etc. that are available.

We're looking at buying them the "kids" Kindles next year.

You probably don't want to spend this kind of money, but there is nothing like the iPad and I am not an apple guy. My daughter who is 2 has "taken" my iPad and claimed it as hers the past year. She watches tv through the time warner app. Movies and plays games. It's amazing watching her swipe the screen and click apps. I have had lots of different tablets and none have been as dependable as the ipad. Imo worth the extra money.
