Looks like it has an extra USB port (3 now, instead of 2) which is nice.

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Same reason I play at 144 fps on my PC while others play at 60 or below.
If forward compat will be a thing moving forward, might as well get over it now.Comment

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
The one thing I'm wondering about the matching framerate for multiplayer is, surely they won't have matching frame rate drops? BF4 targets 60fps, but as we all know when **** hits the fan it drops into the 40s. Will the Pro just handle those drops and maintain 60fps? I understand not improving 30fps multiplayer games into 60fps though.Comment

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Because they have better hardware.
It creates situations where developers could force lower FPS caps on gamers of both consoles because one can't hit a target. Pro might be able to do 60FPS on a title and be prevented from doing so because the Slim can't. That's silly.Comment

Now seeing new camera and controllers... why wasn't any of this mentioned or did I somehow miss it? Much more applicable than the Pro to many at this point, would have given more people take-aways that were more positive.Comment

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Exactly.
I'm not expecting huge differences in performance from this upgrade, but if a title was close to hitting 60 fps, and was locked at 30 because it wasn't stable enough, it might be a game that could be bumped to 60 fps. But no, ball and chain OG PS4 can't do it, so the upgraded version won't either. That makes no sense. Outside of a more stable frame rate and 4K benefits, a multiplayer gamer has zero reason to upgrade.
Honestly, they should have just turned it into a 4K box and not included any performance improvements. It would exist to compete with the One S and offer something for 4K adopters. Next console would compete with Scorpio.
If forward compatibility will be a thing, I would hope that larger console upgrades are immune from this rule.Last edited by sbauer318; 09-07-2016, 04:12 PM.Comment

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
No 4K Blu-Ray on the Pro? That makes it a hard pass. I honestly wasn't planning on buying it anyway; it seems to be directed more at people who haven't gotten in on this generation just yet and would rather get a "premium" version of the PS4. With no 4K support, however, that means I don't even have to think twice. What an odd choice.Comment

Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Yup, of course it did and personally they should of scrapped the Pro to save the embarrassment. If the Scorpio releases next Fall, it'll trounce this stop gap that Sony thought they could get 2-3 more years out of the PS4.
How can this new revision still be on a 28nm node while consuming up to 310W?Comment

Re: Sony PlayStation Meeting Discussion Thread
Difference is that when you pay for online play and use same controller and all are under the same eco system it would not be fair to ps4 owners. The PC argument is weak because PC is an open source that is all about hardware and is not like a ps4 owner can go buy a 150 controller or 150 cpu or a monitor that does 144hz for console gaming.
They need to keep it an even playing field....Those that want the advantage can apply to PCComment

No, they don't. And yes, they can buy a $150 controller (https://scufgaming.com/). You can also buy other attachments as well. Those are supposed to give you an edge.Difference is that when you pay for online play and use same controller and all are under the same eco system it would not be fair to ps4 owners. The system is supposed to be about choice. You want improvements, you can buy them. If consoles are going to be like phones, this is going to happen.Last edited by sbauer318; 09-07-2016, 04:19 PM.Comment

I can have a 100 mouse and 100 key board and you can go buy 300 mouse and 300 keyboard. You will have a serious advantage over me and even more for those that use stock mouses.
Scuff controller difference from PS4 controller is not the same as a 300 mouse and keyboard over stock
When you can change the internals by choice on a console then we can talkComment

I'm not sure how you can say there's a huge difference in mice, but then say that the controllers don't make that much of a difference. But consoles are not like phones. They are under the same spectrum. Scuff controllers and Elite controllers offer a slight edge at one price point.

Some mice have quicker response times, more buttons and offer better DPI settings, yes, but you're not going to be significantly better. Almost every gaming mouse is less than $100 so your prices are way off. There's a bigger difference between a $10 cheap bargain mouse and a decent Logitech gaming mouse than anything else.
Have you even played on a $300 mouse/keyboard or are you just making it up?
You spend more time talking about response rates in televisions than I spend thinking about my mouse. You're trying to get an edge, aren't you? My gaming mouse is cheaper than any of the console controllers.Comment
