My guess is when Disney starts releasing them. With the animated movies, Marvel, and Star Wars, they could sell a lot.

We don't plan to have a huge library of UHDs, we got The Martian and it's great. Netflix I think is even streaming ATMOS on some of their titles. It looks really good.

It's a missed opportunity in an enthusiast-focused product, but the streaming options have gotten really good if you have the bandwidth. UHD is something like 7gb/hour.

Yeah the charts are completely off. I looked it up last night and DVDs in 2011 were 6.8 billion in sales. So someone is lying to get their point across.

Because UHD players are expensive but you add one to a gaming system and things start to change.

There are a few movies I would buy in UHD 4K if I had the player for it, but it's not something I'm all too worried about.

I've only purchased one Blu Ray disk in the past 4 years and It was for my girlfriend. There's too many cheaper streaming options now.

I'll get the PS Pro.. no questions asked.

I don't know him obviously, but Mark Cerny seems like such a creepy person. I laughed at a post I saw on YT..

"I feel like Mark Cerny would be nice to you, but would then murder you and wear your skin in his basement."

I don't know if that is true that people don't buy disk basic movies much any more because I know when it comes to games 80% of sales are still disk and only 20% are digital. I don't see why movies would be much different. A lot of people still don't have a fast internet and downloading movies can take a long time.
4K market penetration is only 15% right now.

Also, its not that people dont care about disk based media. Its that they have other options.

For example, I have 2 4k TVs. I dont have a 4K Bluray player but lets say that I did and I wanted to buy the movie Creed. So here are my options:

              Pay $30 for a 4K Bluray
              Pay 22 for a Bluray
Pay 15 for an HD Digital Copy
              Pay 10 for a DVD.

Now if I'm a videophile with a 7.1 ATMOS system, I would want the movie in 4K. Most of us arent videophiles. Most are likely happy with a 1080p HD picture and would be happy with a bluray or HD Digital version.

I can recognize that 4K video is somewhat better than standard HD but is it enough to make someone pay $15 more for the same content?

I only have 3 4K Blurays, but 1 4K TV (and that's in the bedroom). For your Atmos, do you do 2 or 4?

So you sat there and viewed a 4K native movie like the MadMax and watched it next to a 1080P blu ray copy on another of the same tv and the difference was not worth 15?

Ok perhaps not to you but if you say that most are not videophiles and are just as happy with a 1080p hd version then why buy a 4K tv?

In the last year 4K tvs have started to sell big time

You forget that at first it will not sell well due to price but now things are getting cheaper

4K UHD players still to high and when they fall and they will more will buy and those 4K movies will drop in price as well. This price point is not going to be a life time thing

4K is the standard starting real soon

                    - It really isnt. Not enough to consistently buy 4K Blurays. It looked better no doubt but its not like the jump from SD to HD.

                    - You buy a 4Ktv for a couple of reasons: 1) To future proof your TV in case TV networks go all in on 4K in the future.(The main reason I bought it) 2) 4K TVs are about the same as many LEDs. I can buy a 4K tv for around $500 right now.

                    - 4k wont be the standard until the TV networks buy in and that hasnt happened yet. Producing content in 4k is significantly more expensive than HD and even if 4K market penetration jumps to 30%-40% in the next few years, its not likely that many major TV networks will jump in soon.

Many TV networks felt burned by 3D. ESPN, Discovery (who I work for) and other networks were quick to create 3D networks and lost millions because even though people were buying 3D TVs....no one was watching 3D content.

TV networks dont want to get burned again and arent ready to commit to 4K until they are sure the audience is there.

By the time that happens, Sony will be working on the PS5 and will likely include a 4K bluray player so this will be a non-issue.

I dont have ATMOS. I used to be a bit of a audiophile but once you have kids that **** changes. Whats the use in having a ATMOS system when you are afraid you are going to wake your toddler up when watching a movie.

I have a Sonos system with a playbar and 2 play 1s and it works fine for me.

Yeah. I used to have a receiver and 5.1 audio and all that. Now I have a sound bar and I'm happy with it.

TV never did 1080p their channels are 720p and 1080i

In the years of 1080p they never natively offered 1080p so 4k is a pipe dream before 8K comes out

Thats not true. Discovery and many other networks have been actively looking into producing 4k content. In fact Discovery is releasing some 4k content on its Discovery Go app. Networks are dipping their toes in. They just want to see if the audience is there.

The audience is there because the sales on 4K tvs are booming and in 3 years it will be the standard.

You might find a channel like Discovery but espn, and fox sports...Those channels keep it 720p as interlaced image does not help sports

I would be stunned if main popular channels ever see 4K within the next decade if ever

Love my Atmos (5.1.2), but am not tightly dialed in or anything, just added more height to my wall of audio coming from the TV.
