And I don't know how many of you recall Kid Icarus but OMG I would love to play a modernized (yet 2D!) version of that game.

That's sort of something I'd like to bring attention to as well. Like the new Zelda by Nintendo looks quite amazing and I most certainly would/will buy it if I get the Switch...

But why not also have a 2D overhead (ala the original) exploratory Zelda based game as well?

I mean those games made in that vein still sell pretty well and all of us older gamers would love a game like that.

That's sort of the same thing with Metroid...we all loved the side scrolling Metroid ala the original. Keep making the 3D FPS or whatever Metroids, that's cool, but why not also create a side scrolling 2D Metroid with fantastic graphics, updated sparkle, HDR, whatever effects and sell it for say $39.99?

They need to do this with a bunch of the old games.

If they want to make an updated, newer, 3D version of it that is akin to Call of Duty or whatever, go ahead, but also make classic-remake versions as well.

I honestly think if Nintendo could adopt this strategy they would be back in the game as a major player. Look at how well the Nintendo Retro console has sold, us older gamers are hungry for those sorts of games, not updated FPS that is called Metroid and has some of the same graphics.

EDIT: How about a really awesome R.C. Pro Am..arcade fun with the same 3D type view but with added lighting, enhanced textures, etc etc? I loved that game and I'd buy it.

I would love a new Metroid that's similar to the first Metroid and a Castlevania that reminded me of II (though I realize most in the series have a similar flow, I believe it was Symphony of the Night that changed things up a bit)

And also no more 3D Castlevania.

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017

I agree with you guys and these are great ideas, but sadly, Nintendo doesn't share the same vision that we do.

It's interesting, as I finished reading Console Wars a few months ago and Nintendo, by most accounts, acts the same way in 2017 as they did in 1990. They waited years to finally fire back at Sega and when they did, I'd say it helped produce some nice innovation and life into its franchises and systems.

Maybe they're just tired of fighting and having to actually earn the business of 3rd party developers and would prefer to keep doing things their own way and if some developers follow suit, that's cool. I would love to see Nintendo go all out to reclaim the throne; I just don't see it happening.

I mean, yes the NES Classic sold well, but Nintendo could've sold SO MUCH MORE if they'd simply stocked stores with more units. The demand for the Classic was to purchase the system as a holiday present. Now that the holidays are over, I don't see the system selling as well as it could have the past 30 days. The same thing with the 3DS, too, as Nintendo created buzz with the price drop and new Pokemon games, but again, refused to provide retailers with enough units to reach a bigger audience.

You can pretty much guarantee this "shortage" will happen with the Switch, too. It's Nintendo's bread and butter technique dating back to the 1980's, but in today's age, doesn't work.

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017

well we ALL find out want The Nintendo Switch will offer at launch on Jan 12th/13th.

A LOT hinges on the fact of two things. Nintendo fans just LOVE Nintendo hardware so they'll buy it anyway and the fact its portable A LOT of ppl esp dads wanting to play on their lazy boy like the idea of the wii u tablet mechanic so that they can still stay in the living room and not have to leave their familys to play a game. That disconnect creates a connection they long for.

            That said.

I just dont want a lineup of good games i want a lineup right from the start so i dont have gaps between nintendo gaming the way i had with the wii u. at times there were 6 months gaps and id just trade the system in until something new came along and rebuy the system when i felt it was worth it because that trade in credit helped with ps4 and xbox one gaming during those 6 months of gaps by nintendo.

But the switch is the wii all over again day one for me

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017

Nintendo should delay the Switch to September. Let it kick off the fall of gaming. Extra six months means a better launch lineup with Mario AND Zelda, more time to make sure that there's no "shortages" and being newer rather than older come the Holiday season.

It will sell in March but only to the hardcore Nintendo fanbase which I would assume is less than the 13m that purchased a Wii U. Sadly, my faith, confidence and anything positive in regards to Nintendo has been gone for generations. I truly don't see it coming back with the Switch. With that said, if im off from work, I will definitely be watching the Switch press conference or whatever the hell it's being called and if it launches for $200, I'll definitely be interested and look into the launch lineup. Any higher and I think it will bomb simply because portables are slowing down and will eventually be replaced by crappy and horrible mobile games and as sad as that is, it's a sad reality.

Come on Nintendo, get me excited for your console hybrid you goofs!!!

Jan 12th is the day they will TRY to get us excited.

                They will reveal 3 things

                Price
                Pre order/and Launch dates
                Game Line Up

                The first two are definite

                But games sell systems

Anyone with a Wii U wont buy a Switch at launch. theyre tapping into the portable and other markets to sell them.

3ds are SOLD OUT all in preparation to get ppl to buy the switch

I've spoken to many pl and they want Mario switch. but i dont.

Nintendo nuking the 3ds stock is hilarious. Definitely saw this coming though. They are kings of driving up their product hype by making it hard to purchase.

Last I read Nintendo ran out of stock before the holidays, leading to retailer shortages.

                          Oops.

Some of the best sports games were on the NES system.
Games like Baseball Simulator, Bad News Baseball, Bases Loaded, NES Ice Hockey, Tecmo Bowl, etc, etc.

Sharpen the graphics, add franchise modes, voila! I would be first in line to buy a Switch.
