Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
I have put about 220 hours into Zelda and I have not played it lately but I still have a lot in the game I have not done including most of the dlc and I want to do it at some point just so many games and so little time. My backlog is killing me and even games I have done 100% on I will go back and play from time to time.Comment

First, I know everything in the game so there's no surprises or suspense whatsoever. Second, there's obviously other games that I want to play and third, playing through a game a second time can affect how you saw/looked at it the first time through especially since you know everything already and I don't believe that would be fair to the game because instead of just enjoying the game like you would on a first play-through, you could spend more time analyzing the game instead.
As for trading in games, personally, I stopped being a collector two generations ago and want to get back as much credit as possible to put towards my next game. No point in keeping games that I either beat and won't play again or that I will never play to begin with.
As for you with Zelda, if you haven't completed the game 100% yet, then yeah, it makes sense to keep it as long as you keep playing it but at the same time, if you already did the story missions and the majority of important stuff in the game (shrines, side quests, etc.) and yet, you keep going back to it probably explains why you have an increasing backlog.
Playing the same game for weeks and months or replaying them while still buying new games will definitely give you a large backlog bud.Comment

I personally enjoy going back and replaying games. To me it's the same as rereading a favorite book or watching a movie again.

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
A lot of games are amazing but to replay a game that I already completed near or at 100% is just a waste of my personal time especially when there's so many new games being released that I want to play through. Take God of War for example, it's my 2018 game of the year. Completed 98% overall or something close to that and it was an easy 9.5/10 for me but do I ever want to replay it? Nope.

With Zelda I still have a lot of side missions I have not done and still have like 12 shrins I have not gotten to. Even though I do like to go back and play games from time to time its not really the reason I have a backlog. I have a big backlog because of lack of free time. Being 29 and doing college, and trying to find a new job, and being that I cant stand my current job, and have been having a hard time finding a new job for several years I just dont have a lot of free time. When I am not working its like I am either in school or doing home work or looking for a job. Also I am a big sports fan so when I do have free time a lot of times I am catching up on sports that are on my dvr. So I just dont have a lot of time to play video games any more wish I did. Funny you say weeks or months because I like never beat any thing in weeks about the shortest time it takes me to beat a game is like a month because I dont have the time to play for like 5 hours in a day that often.Comment

Nintendo Switch Discussion
I almost never replay games, rewatch tv shows or movies, or revisit a good book when finished. If I happen to catch an episode or movie on cable, yeah, but other than that I’m on to something new. Which is why I trade games in and don’t buy movies on Blu-ray.
I would rather spend my free time on new experiences.Comment

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
Technically, all experiences are new experiences. The first run through is going to be different than the second. The quality of those differences will depend on the quality of work, of course. There are books I've read 4-5 times that on each read I am finding new nuances to pick up on or different perspectives to interpret. Movies are the same way. Games are a little different than other mediums due to their scripted nature and typically subpar narratives, but some things will never get old to me. Swooping down as Batman. Webslinging across New York. Maneuvering through the train sequence in Uncharted 2.
Obviously, whatever floats your boat. I'm of the mind that there's typically so much going on that it's very hard to capture and comprehend everything that is happening with only one viewing, reading, etc.

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
Picked up a switch for smash Bros like many have, just wanted to know what are some of your favorite games? I didn't play much of Nintendo growing up so I don't have any sort of nostalgia attached other than to Pokemon which I'll probably grab too.

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
I dont get how if you love a game you wouldn't want to go back from time to time and play just dont make sinces to me. I do agree about how after you have played you dont have the excitement of like not knowing what is going to happend. That is why I like longer games because it is less fun to play after you have beaten a game once yes but it is still fun to play again at some point, and I still get a itch to go back from time to time and play something again. Its like no different than watching a movie you have already seen before. Yes you known what is going to happend but that dosnt mean there is no fun to watch the movie again. If I love something be it a game or movie or what not I can watch it or play it over and over and not really get tired of it. So its not about collecting something for me its that I want to be able to play it from time to time and I known I would want to go back and play something if I ended up trading it in and wouldn't be able to.

Funny you say weeks or months because I like never beat any thing in weeks about the shortest time it takes me to beat a game is like a month because I dont have the time to play for like 5 hours in a day that often.SpoilerYeah, I'll go back and play Mad Max from time to time but after maybe an hour if that, I get extremely bored because I did it all already which is why I stopped buying digital games if I already completed the game physically. It's like, why am I wasting money on a game I already completed and will most likely never play again? Especially when that money could go towards a new game that I haven't played.
Movie wise, I'll re-watch some of my movies but that's more because I think the majority of movies nowadays sucks compared to when I was younger. Also, movies are maybe 3 hours max depending on the movie where as majority of the games I play are more like 15 hours minimum. LOL.
TV show wise, I'll watch clips or full episodes of Married With Children as that's literally the only TV show I can watch over and over again and still laugh my butt off. But it's 20 minutes give or take an episode. Again, much different than games.
Take now for example, im working on my backlog of games I haven't played yet or completed. In two weeks, I finished three games and quit two others which just weren't for me but were worth trying out. Thursday will be a game that once im done with it, my backlog for this only consists of 5 2018 games. Everything else is done.
If I was to replay games, not only would I just add more games to my backlog, I would be missing out on some good to great to excellent games because instead of playing them for the first time, im re-playing games in which I know everything already and honestly, that's just not any fun for me anymore.
Also, with next gen just under two years away and me having an 8 game backlog from last gen, I want to have it all eliminated by the time the next consoles release. I don't want to get stuck with a backlog like I have now because the games will eventually look and be outdated and I won't want to play them.
Perhaps the biggest factor of all at least for me is back when I was younger, all I played was sports and puzzle games as well as Final Fight CD for Sega CD over and over and over again. Doing that caused me to miss out on so many games that there's just no way im playing any of them now. Add in the fact that I stopped being a collector two gens ago and yeah, it's just one new game after another because I want to experience and play games that I haven't played and completed as opposed to games I have which in turn lessens the experience simply because I know how the entire game plays out.
You say that you have side content left in Zelda so it makes sense to go back to play the game because you still have stuff you haven't done in the game but for me, I do all the side and optional stuff on my first play-through because for me personally, once the main story campaign is done, game itself is done no matter what.
Take Mario & Rabbids Kingdom Battle for example and highly recommend by the way. I completed the first 3 worlds 100%. After completing the 4th world and thus, the story, you gain an ability that allows you to get the stuff in world 4 that wasn't accessible. I went back in trying to do that and nope, quit after maybe 20 minutes. Just can't do it. The interest, appeal, motivation and determination at that point is just gone. LOL.
Obviously, to each their own. I just prefer to play new games that I haven't played or at least try out as opposed to replaying a game I already completed. Sorry for the long post.Last edited by peter42O; 12-18-2018, 01:44 AM.Comment

Re: Nintendo Switch Discussion
I keep flip flipping on picking it up on release or waiting. We're getting a handful of games for Christmas so we don't really need to add to the collection yet.
