I think you're just splitting hairs at this point. Lol. They made it very clear that it can be used both on the go and at home on a television. There is literally zero being hidden about that. Battery life, specs, etc... sure. But it can very obviously be used at home like a tradition console or on the road like a gaming tablet. That's not a mystery.

Don't get me wrong, your other concerns are valid, but whether or not this is a portable or a console? The answer is yes. It works as both.

Re: Nintendo Switch Announced, Scheduled to Release March 2017

Switch is what appears to be a 720P portable handheld console that allows you to also play games on your TV. It definitely looks to be gimmicky but if they keep the technical aspects as current as they possible can, then this might actually turn out to be a good console/handheld hybrid.

Have to be honest, I wasn't really into the idea but learning that you can use a Switch Pro controller for all the games on the TV is a huge plus for me as that's how I would play the games. This would also allow you to keep the base controller fully charged and able to switch to the handheld at any time with a full charge.

Still think that Nintendo is making a mistake by not releasing more details and info. Any negative info that they obviously already know about should be released sooner rather than later.

Right now, im more optimistic than I was the other day. I'm 50/50 and which way it goes will depend on tech specs, price and launch games.

How am I splitting hairs? This thing could very well end up being a 200 tablet that is not that impressive gaming wise at all. We know Nintendo is trending towards the mobile game market and this thing might be part of it.

When I say I wanted a console I'm saying I want something that out performs the Wii U and rivals Xbox one/PS4. I'm not confident this is going to do that.

So you want a third console that is exactly like the others?

Yeah. Does that seem weird? I'm not into the gimmicks. I do my gaming in my gaming room.

Obviously it would be like the others anyways since it plays nintendo exclusives. If this thing is a 720 box like stated above it's gonna die once again third party wise.

I'm not sure you understand the meaning of "gimmick". Being different doesn't automatically equal gimmick. Portability is not a gimmick (game boy, ds, 3ds, cell phones), nor is the ability to use the system as a console. Being able to do both is added functionality.

Gimmick is just about as overused as "broken" or "glucose intolerant".

Personally would be much more interested in a standard system, probably shave another $50+ off the cost if there was no screen, battery, etc.

That approach I can understand; the portability not being of interest and thinking about the cost savings.

For me, I dig it. Nintendo isn't winning the console race any time soon (IMO), so having a secondary system with all of the Nintendo first party titles on one console instead of spread across two is what really intrigues me. As mentioned before, I travel a lot, so this is right up my alley.

I currently take my PS4 Slim on the road with me, which works great except I obviously can't play it on the plane. With this, I could do both.

Even a base Tegra X1 is more capable than Wii U. Not to mention whether it's based on Maxwell or Pascal, a far more efficient architecture than the dated Radeon 4000 series.

To me the most excited potential of NX/Switch has always been the content that can come with Nintendo being able to focus on a single unified platform. It's not just Nintendo either, but Japanese third parties, who it's going to be in their best interest for this to be a success there. Franchises and games that you would typically only see on Nintendo handhelds will start to show up on Switch.

There will absolutely be Mobile games too. The Oceanhorn devs confirmed two titles for 2017 and there will be others. The 3DS would have been an option if weren't for lackluster hardware and lack of supported engines. Switch having UE4 and Unity support on day 1, and Nvidia having helped create their entire dev environment really helps.

I'm not trying to say this gimmick has no chance of playing out well. I'm just skeptical. If it works out Im gonna buy it once the exclusives pile up. If they are head and shoulders above Wii U exclusives. A console that doubles as a handheld is a gimmick though. Just like Kinect is a gimmick, just like Wii U gamepad is a gimmick, and just like the original Wii and the motion controls were a gimmick.

How is what Nintendo shown a trick or method?
                          It is a design.

Adding rumble feature, share button, online play etc.. were all gimmicks then...as they improved or added something to get people to want it.
Basically what businesses are supposed to do.

I buy them all but was stung a bit with the Wii U. That's the only reason I am possibly going to wait and see how the system gets along.
I'm sure I'll reserve one just in case.

Actually, you're further reiterating that you don't. Lol. No one is being tricked by Nintendo here.

At any rate, your mind isn't going to be changed when you don't want it changed. This probably just isn't the system for you.

Please read the definition again. "Method OR trick" I never said Nintendo was tricking anyone. Not sure how you came to that conclusion.

You are taking this way too personally and not even reading what I type. I just said if it works out I will be buying it once the games pile up. As long as it shows vast improvement over my current Nintendo console. Still a gimmick though. Nothing will change that.
