I do believe that in the long run the PS5 will offer cheaper options because it’s not only one company making the SSD like on the Xbox. Only time will tell.

But on XBOX you can bet that next to the console at stores the external solution will be offered and is just plug and play. Not take apart your console I mean come on now

It’s essentially the same way to swap the PS4 and the Pro hard drive. It isn’t rocket science and it isn’t new.

Re: New PlayStation 5 Details Revealed, Arrives Next Holiday Season

Installing a secondary SSD isn't complicated or difficult but it is a process. Remove the plate then unscrew the lid to the SSD port. The main issues though are - is the SSD compatible and the same spec as the internal? If not, it's basically a waste of money and time if your sole purpose is to use it for PS5. Does the SSD have a heat sink attached to it? And if so, does that fit into the SSD port in the console? If not, how does that SSD stay cool? Does the fan that is located next to the slot keep that SSD cool?

It's not a massive issue but there are questions that Sony needs to answer and the sooner the better especially for those who want to buy an additional SSD. The SSD port in PS5 is the same as the stand. Not a massive issue but still takes several minutes to complete as opposed to the competition that lets you just tilt the console over and done or just insert the SSD expandable storage card into the back of the console and is hot swap-able meaning that you don't have to power off the console. Stand or SSD, you must turn off the PS5.

It all is what it is. Funny thing though is that I see a lot of PS fans be okay with changing the stand or inserting a secondary SSD but yet, seem to have an issue with changing batteries on the Xbox controller. LOL.

For me, an extra SSD will never come into play so doesn't affect me either way and I would only change those plates if Sony releases official solid black ones at a reasonable price. Both consoles will also be horizontal for me as I don't like the idea of the disc being vertical inside the console when being played. Prefer the disc to be laying flat instead of vertical.

But if all games are played using the SSD why would this matter? And if there was a serious issue with the disc I doubt either company would want you using it vertical.

Like I said before, i would love for them allow us to download music from our devices into the system like in the PS3 era. I didn't care for the Media Player. I would hope that would allow custom music in games like in the PS3/360 era. It would be cool to have custom arena sounds in NBA 2k again or intro music for other sports games. For games like GTA where if you are driving around listening to radio, there is a custom radio station that plays the tracks saved on your console.

Oh lord. You have to unscrew the lid to the SSD bay? Insanity. Some of y’all like to stretch the simplest stuff. Lol.

Also, if it’s too difficult to check a list or as I’m sure it’ll be on the SSD box (One SSD maker already stated theirs is and advertising as such), that it’s compatible with PS5, then you don’t need extra storage to begin with.

Right? I had to do the same thing to change the batteries to my Teddy Ruxpin when I was a child.

But apparently it was such a hard process to do that I instead just gave up and swallowed the batteries.

I'm not stretching anything because that's what you have to do if you want to get to the SSD expansion bay. It's a simple step that you still have to do.

As for the list, there is NO list because Sony hasn't provided one yet so yeah, I would imagine that it would be difficult to ensure that you're buying the correct SSD because it needs to match the internal SSD inside the PS5 precisely. But hey, it's not my money so feel free to take your chances.

You seriously think Sony is not going to have a list of compatible drives after release? 4.0 SSD are still very new and 3.0 won’t work, so there is nothing to list right now. Anyways, who the hell is buying a bigger drive for a console you don’t even have yet? Lmao.

Man, I can’t even debate you with this logic lol. Gotta remove a screw, hope you never get into PC gaming pal.

It has nothing to do with buying it NOW, it has to do with people who want to buy one knowing so they can plan it out. I have been planning next gen since late last year. You think people are just willy nilly? No. Majority plan out their stuff especially this year.

I never said removing a screw was a big deal. Just that it's something you need to do if you're going to install a secondary SSD. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have zero interest in PC gaming. Not for me. So no worries there. lol.

I literally will buy a new SSD if I see it’s needed after playing. I don’t need a year ahead of time to make that decision but fair enough, some do.

Think we both can agree to move on to other PS5 news now. Enjoy it!

Nobody said it was rocket science, but you said it was just the same as the xbox solution which is just plug it in. That is crazy and like I said. You and enthusiasts will take a few minutes to remove the flaps and screw and put the SSD on but most casuals will not since most do not care for watching youtube videos about these things and most are not going to buy a ps5 with the intent to open it up.

You know.. I am a public servant and I know the general public very well.. but the fact you keep hinting the majority of console players are too dumb to slide off a side and unscrew a screw is beyond insulting. The PS5 is built to remove the sides for several reasons. Move on or go back to your Xbox thread man. Damn.

I kind of feel like unsubscrewing from this thread, but OS made it too hard to do by needing to click buttons.

In all seriousness, if they required you to use a torx bit socket or something, that would be a little cruel and unusual. Also if the screw had major stripping issues or voided the warranty once you did it, once again there would be slight pause. If this was also something required to do "every time" for something like playing a new game, that would be a major nuisance. But in its current state and for its purpose, this isn't the hill to die on.

I'm going to laugh if next-gen Xboxes have trouble with drives self-dislodging from their bays when you move the console around.

So what games/accessories are you guys buying along with the PlayStation 5?

I'm buying Spider Man: Miles Morales as well as multi-platform games Watch Dogs Legion and Assassin's Creed Valhalla Digital Gold Edition.
