You can if you get the people local authorities involved because scalping is a crime & against the law.. if caught you can be arrested.. it's easy to find scalpers by looking up the item on the internet to see who charging more then the retail price then all they have to do is trace there ip address or call that person isp & get there information & go arrest them.. i can guarantee you if they enforce the law it would stop...

Normally I’d agree, but MS was able to.

I wish these sites would keep the pre order options open even if they run out so you can atleaat lock in your order....

People when the next batch of pre orders come out please only purchase 1 per household so others like myself can get an order in thank you..

In a perfect world, but sadly that won’t happen. There will always be greedy people out there.

Went today and they were out before they even opened there doors? Sounds like employees helping out their friends.

It's all my son wants for Xmas. I got all the way through to payment for Best Buy but it never took.

Oh well. I refuse to enable scalpers so if I don't get one by Dec 25th I'll get him a $450 IOU.

Of course I'll be looking to get a Series X next week. Hopefully they handle it better.

What's the difference? The console has to get shipped to the store , might as well be to your house. Either way it's getting shipped.

This will stop that garbage that people do.. That's why I'm not a fan of allowing online pre orders for new consoles... in store only pre orders with a mandatory 1 per household rule would stop that crap & shut down scalpers completely...

I understand the frustration but nothing you said is even remotely feasible. Sony and Microsoft have zero way to track anything like this, they aren't shipping them direct to consumer, the retailer pays for the sku and sells them so that info starts and stops at the retailer. Furthermore I sincerely doubt any retailer would even begin to entertain the idea of turning all that information over to Sony or Microsoft.

Local authorities are not going to get involved in people buying limited things and flipping them, this happens in everything. People are talking about trying to find a PC graphics card today and its sold out with people listing them at a markup, it happens with everything from Jordan shoes to things like Funko Pops, the police have less then zero interest in this. Scalping isn't a crime either, hell people buy tickets for sporting events and mark them up for sale on NFL supported third party websites for a reason, there is nothing illegal about buying something and reselling it, nothing at all. ISP's won't turn over IP addresses without a court order and reselling things sure as hell isn't going to warrant a court order. You can be frustrated over the lack of inventory but none of what you said is factual or feasible.

If you have buyer's remorse about something and the value significant changes from what you paid would you be obligated to hold on to it for a set period of time before you can sell it avoid it being scalping?

There's also the fact that you're not being forced into buying something that someone is reselling either.

It definitely sucks and I don't like it, but it would be a giant waste of manpower and time trying to track and I don't think it would prevent there from being shortages, website servers crashing, etc.

Should have had the PS5 Disc from Amazon but by the time I put my info in, all gone. GameStop in store also sold out.

At this point, im hoping stores don't do the same crap Monday night that they did last night for Xbox.

I was able to get through.

I didn't even know they were open and logged on to work after some Warzone.

It took a good hour on the BB website but got the confirmation for the disc version.

I really prefer the digital version so if I get that I will more than gladly help out a fellow OSer.

Exactly!! Just keep trying to find one. I spent the entire morning and night trying to find the 3080 and wasn’t able to get one. They’re selling for 3 times the price on eBay and no way in hell I’m paying those prices. It is what it is. Some people just sound extremely salty they couldn’t get one. It happens all the time. I can guarantee you more will become available before the launch date.

When it comes to customer satisfaction perception is everything, and right now there are a lot of people pissed off at Sony for the way things went down, whether they truly deserve the blame or not.

People can be mad at Sony all they want and they’ll still buy the ps5. They didn’t handle it correctly but I doubt any PS fan will be swayed away IMO..

With that said even if there was a specific date and time then you’d have millions of people sitting there at the same time refreshing to be first and every site would crash before it even went live.
That's unlikely, stores can face big penalties for intentionally breaking street dates on items.

For the people complaining about pre orders be thankful they didn't do a specific time because bots would've just ate things up. The way they did it gave regular people a chance if you put in some work.
