Finally paid for mine today. Looking forward to getting some time with it. I plan on putting the top sports games from NES to PC. My top 10 sports games on the Deck would look like....

    NFL 2K5

    NCAA football

    March Madness

    The Show

    Hot Shots Golf

    NBA 2K

    NBA Live

    Fifa

    Tiger Woods Golf

    NHL

I will be testing these very soon and hopefully, I'll get some good performance.

I would say its hit or miss. Some games run fine and others need some tweaking. I've tested a few games and from Madden 23, NBA 2K22, PGA 2k21 and they all run fine. Red Dead 2 and GTA V runs fine...only adventure games I've played.

I've also tested NFL 2K25 and it runs decent on PCSX2 . I'm in the process of installing the 2K23 Mod also. Anything from the PS2 emulator and down runs great. I'm having issues with RPCS3 and Hot Shots and NCAA 14.

The Steam Deck colors doesn't quite rival the OLED Switch, but Reshade works and it great, it makes 2K22 so much more vibrant. I'll post some pics soon showing the difference.

Here is a pic of 2k22 running reshade. I over cooked the vibrance to show how reshade can make the colors pop. The original doesn't look too bad, I just like a bit of saturation.

              Re: Steam Deck

I’ve had the Steam Deck for a couple of days. First impressions are overall pretty positive.

It took me an hour to figure out to get Xcloud on the SD. I’m very much a newbie when dealing with Linux. Anyways, MLB The Show looked and played beautifully. Had some minor fps issues with FH5. NBA 2K22 looks great and played decently. I can see myself picking it up through Steam for that pc experience.

I also downloaded EA Play. Briefly played Madden. Flows nicely and looks pretty darn nice. Not a huge Madden fan but was curious.

The keyboard isn’t great. Scratch that, it’s awful. The battery isn’t great either but I generally don’t game longer than an half hour to an hour a day. Shouldn’t be an issue for me.

I’ll try and figure out the emulation so I can play NBA Street, Ratchet and Clank, Burnout, SSX , etc. The system seemingly can pretty much run everything.

Selling my oled Switch. I’m a fan of the Steam Deck!

I got my Steam Deck last night and got PS5 remote play set up and that blew my mind. I am pumped to play single-player and sports games handheld. I may clock 500+ hours on NHL now that I can play handheld on the couch while football is on.

Then, you know, actual Seam games has me back in PC gaming for the first time in a decade. I tried out AOE2 last night and with the track pads it actually worked insanely well. Going to have to finally play games like Mass Effect and Fallout now.

Agreed! I got my Steam Deck a week or two ago and I am loving it! I do agree the keyboard is not great (at best) and the battery life is just okay, but to be able to play all of these games on a handheld is amazing. Madden 22 works fine, along with many of my other Steam games. PCXS2 generally works great (though NHL 09 and The Show didn't work so good). RPCS3 is hit or miss. NHL 10, NHL 2k7 and NHL 2k10 all seem to work okay, but NCAA 14, Madden and The Show are all too slow to be playable (if they open at all).

I haven't touch mine in a week. Like Sportdan, trying to navigate Linux makes doing simple things frustrating. I did get some games and retro stuff installed. I recently got my 1TB SD card, so I'll be filling it up soon.

I can see why now. I guess after waiting for a year to get it, I feel rushed to try and maximize every aspect of it. There's so much you can do, I feel overwhelmed trying to understand Linux and add all my games, launchers, gamepass, ect.

I need to slow down and enjoy some games instead of adding a ton of stuff I'm probably not gonna utilize anyway. Hopefully, it won't turn into the Switch for me, I quite playing it after 3 months.

Quick question. Can you play modded games? Can you mod game files and use different launchers than the typical ones? Can you download things like Open IV?

I haven’t tried any mods yet. I was surprised reshade worked. I would think if you're using Open IV for graphics mods, it probably would kill performance. But for scripts only, that may work.

I'll try some 2K22 mods when I get home.

                                Re: Steam Deck

So, I've had a complete 180 since I purchased it a week ago. I will say the system is quite impressive and the potential is through the roof. With that said, I have come to a few conclusions for myself.

Number 1. For newer games, higher visual type games, I much prefer to game on my big screen tv. Maybe it's me getting older and my eyes not as strong as they once were playing on handhelds, but I just like the overall experience more.

Number 2. I'm not as retro as I once was. There's an overwhelming number of games I could play, but do I really want to put the effort in? Unfortunately, I had issues getting the emulators to work and it was more trouble than it was worth. The Steam Deck wasn't necessarily geared towards me I suppose.

Number 3. I guess it's the same reason I don't own a gaming pc. I just expect the game to work rather than having to mess with several settings. And yes, I knew this going in, but didn't think it would an issue. It's more of a "me" problem.

Number 4. The work, life, balance thing really had me questioning exactly when I was going to be able to really play this thing. I was reaching for the remote to watch college football, baseball, tennis, etc. more so than I wanted to sit on the couch and game.

Number 5. Lastly, I like the smaller footprint of my Switch oled with my satisfye grip. But more than that, it's the perfect little system for indie style games. I pick and choose more carefully now-a-days and get as much or more enjoyment out of a small indie title than a AAA title.

In the end, I sold my Steam Deck a couple days ago. I wasn't able to sell my Switch bundle to offset the cost. And that turned out to be a blessing. 75 percent of the time, I'll opt for the Series X or PS5, with the Switch being a nice back up.

p.s. I'll miss Vampire Survivors and hope it'll come to the Switch sometime soon.
