Re: "Lost" Season 2 discussion thread...

Just something I noticed while rewatching it right now on Tivo...

When Desmond tries to solder the PC and it fries out, he then freaks out and runs to grab supplies and his "injections" I noticed a book he passed his hand by. I decided to Google it, and it is this book.

    Work on this people...

    The Third Policeman
Introduction by Denis Donoghue The Third Policeman is Flann O'Brien's brilliantly dark comic novel about the nature of time, death, and existence. Told by a narrator who has committed a botched robbery and brutal murder, the novel follows him and his adventures in a two-dimensional police station where, through the theories of the scientist/philosopher de Selby, he is introduced to "Atomic Theory" and its relation to bicycles, the existence of eternity (which turns out to be just down the road), and de Selby's view that the earth is not round but "sausage-shaped." With the help of his newly found soul named "Joe," he grapples with the riddles and contradictions that three eccentric policeman present to him.

The last of O'Brien's novels to be published, The Third Policeman joins O'Brien's other fiction (At Swim-Two-Birds, The Poor Mouth, The Hard Life, The Best of Myles, The Dalkey Archive) to ensure his place, along with James Joyce and Samuel Beckett, as one of Ireland's great comic geniuses.

      Good eye, Boltman.

I just went back and saw it myself, it's out there pretty clear. Wonder if it means anything...

        Thanks,

Feeling like a sleuth (sp?) decective right now. Me and my son noticed it, and alot more, but decided we would google that part because it was so easily made out when in slow mo.

I hope to find more, when me and him rewatch it a third time in the morning.

I'll look, but I kinda remember looking that one up first and did not get as interesting a result as the book I posted.

Gimme a sec, pulling it up on Tivo.

EDIT : Bleh, too late, I deleted it off of my list after I watched it again and broke it down last night, sorry.

No problem Boltman. I think I still have it on tape, so I'll check when I get off work this evening.

                    * Sound like Kate? It wasn't botched to her, but at first it seemed to everyone like the robbery was a failure
** Desmond was riding a bike first time we saw him in the hatch...reach but still you never know.

Hell, you could even compare the "brutal murder" to Jin and everything he did for Sun's father.

                          The Turn of the Screw

The story starts conventionally enough with friends sharing ghost stories 'round the fire on Christmas Eve. One of the guests tells about a governess at a country house plagued by supernatural visitors. But in the hands of Henry James, the master of nuance, this little tale of terror is an exquisite gem of sexual and psychological ambiguity. Only the young governess can see the ghosts; only she suspects that the previous governess and her lover are controlling the two orphaned children (a girl and a boy) for some evil purpose. The household staff don't know what she's talking about, the children are evasive when questioned, and the master of the house (the children's uncle) is absent. Why does the young girl claim not to see a perfectly visible woman standing on the far side of the lake? Are the children being deceptive, or is the governess being paranoid? By leaving the questions unanswered, The Turn of Screw generates spine-tingling anxiety in its mesmerized readers.
