Yea, its not bad, but the picture quality isnt too great. Go with an Olevia instead http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16889022025

Or you could check out the Westinghouse's at Best Buy.

I would go with the Westinghouse out of those two. Also, check out the Olevia by Syntax.

Ok so we finally upgraded from the tube and got a 50" Sasung 720p DLP.

Now that accessories do I need to get the full experience? Right now I only have a ps2 with default cables.

What is a good 2.1 wired sound system, or a 5.1 wireless?

The cheap DVD player I have is progressive scan, should I get component cables for that or just uprade my dvd player?

            Anything I should know?

I already spent enough on the TV, so I don't want to gouge much on the accessories. I can use a friends Best Buy discount though.

Sorry, I guess I should have given some more input. The Westinghouses are regarded by many as the best of the budget brands of lcd's. The picture quality is going to be better, and it will be more reliable.

Also, the Sanyo's response time is only 16 ms, which means there will be some ghosting in fast moving scenes such as sports and video games. The Westy's is 8, which is the highest you want to be at. So you shouldn't notice any ghosting with it.

I'm thinking of getting the 42" sharp lc-42d62u. Anyone have this set or know if it's a good one. Looked great in the store.

just finally ponied up and bought a 32 inch samsung hd lcd flatscreen for my xbox 360, intially I was very satisfied, but I started noticing some things. I don't know if it is some ghosting I'm getting are its just normal but on games like college hoops and to some extent madden or ncaa football. I notice some bluring when the camera moves players are certain things will blur briefly. In 2k hoops when you pass the ball around the players will seem to blur when the camera moves, or in madden backgrounds look great when camera is still but blur when there is moving. even though the screen is prettier now I didn't seem to notice on stand tv. Maybe I just have too high of expectations though. Anybody else expierence this

Re: HDTV Questions and Answers Thread

Sorry for posting in the wrong thread

Anyways, basically I'm looking into a smaller widescreen/HDTV to place in my room...somewhere around the 19" range. I do, however, have a few questions seeing as I'm at a total lost when it comes to these types of things.

                    1. Would it be better to go with a regular sized HDTV or a Widescreen monitor? I'm pretty sure the widescreen doesn't have HDTV, but it's a 19" widescreen and I'm told that Xbox 360 games were mainly meant to be played on widescreen. But then again, I was also told that they should be played in HD. I'm not worried about VGA cables, I'll get those. I just want to know which would be the better investment. So which should I go with here?

                    2. Also, is contrast ratio and ms important? I see one widescreen monitor with a 5 ms but a 2000:1 contrast ratio while another has a 8 ms and a 800:1 ratio. What does this mean, and is it important?

                    3. Will a clear, HD picture still show up on a HDTV if I do not have HD activated through my cable box?

                    Thank you all.

If you are using cable or satellite to get your TV broadcasts you may need to call your provider and upgrade your set top box to get broadcasts in HD. In some areas you can get HD via regular OTA TV.
I'd recommend a 5.1 surround sound system. It makes a big difference in movies and games that support it. You can spend anywhere from $99 to $2000+, but if your not an audiophile $150-200 can get a decent 5.1 receiver and speakers. If you want wireless rear speakers that costs maybe $200-300. 2.1 systems that provide surround sound are more expensive.
I'd keep the old DVD player. Hopefully you can get a PS3 or 360 soon. For me that would be the #1 accessory.

Ok so whats the best of the budget LCD's. I hear Olevia and i also hear westinghouse is good. CNET does't give the Olevia's good reviews. So im not sure. Im looking at about a 32" for my living room tv. I currently have a 30" samsung tube HD set. is an lcd really worth the upgrade? Or would the difference be marginal?

                        thanks

If you use HDMI, sound comes through the same cable, however when you use the DVI adapter, you lose the sound. I'm not sure if you can do that or not.
