    Favorite Band(s)?

What are some of your guy's favorite bands to listen to?

    My list:

Jimi Hendrix - Insane guitar skills, it's a shame his life was so short.

Led Zeppelin - I just love their music, no matter what mood I'm in, I can listen to some Zeppelin.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Just started to get really into them, I've heard their songs before but never really knew who they were. Great band.

Pink Floyd - Probably one of the most unique bands ever.

Bob Dylan - No real reason, I just love listening to his music.

The Doors - Jim Morrison is awesome, that is all. :y4:

The Rolling Stones - Timeless, they've been playing for so long, but they never get old to me.

U2 - Mostly their old stuff, just really good music.

Bob Marley - Great music to listen to when you want to relax.

I'll listen to a lot of different things, but here's what I prefer:

Franz Ferdinand - They strike me as a sort of creative band with a sort of throwback sound. It doesn't hurt that pretty much every track on their two albums is very catchy.

Green Day - Admittedly, I didn't really listen to Green Day until American Idiot came out, but after I enjoyed that album, I felt obligated to go back and listen to their older stuff. I don't think that there is any one thing that Green Day does that clearly separates them from others, but they put it all together real well.

Jimmy Eat World - There's more to them than just The Middle. While they sort of fit under the banner of emo, they aren't the stereotyped emo that everyone accuses every other new band of being today. Adkins' vocals are well-done too.

The Killers - They've only had one US album to my knowledge with Hot Fuss, but I enjoy their sound.

Muse - Again, these guys strike me as a creative band of sorts. On their album Absolution they have so many different sounds, but yet it all remains unified.

Honorable mentions go to Lostprophets, Straylight Run, and Limp Bizkit (yeah, I said it).

Pearl Jam: One of my few holdovers from the 90s

Radiohead: Just great, great, great stuff.

The Shins: Probably my favorite band right now, at least out of everybody besides my two previous choices.

Broken Social Scene: Just starting to get into them really. I only have their latest album, but I've been listening to it non stop since it came out 2+ months ago.

The White Stripes: Got really big into them over the summer. Cooled off a bit, but still love them.

The New Pornographers: Great, great band. Been my latest obsession the past few days.

The Dismemberment Plan: One of the best bands of their brief time, too bad they broke up.

Others on my Last.fm top 10 are....
The Beatles: Can't go wrong with them, wouldn't really consider them a favorite though.
Spoon: good band, need to hear more of their older stuff though.
Wilco: Have a couple of their albums, again, just not one of my favorites, good band though.
Sufjan Stevens: Only have one of his albums, it is just really long so it gets rated high on my list.

          Re: Favorite Band(s)?

I guess any and everything Butch Walker would be number one. Mainly everything from the start of the Marvelous 3 through his current solo run though. The way he and his music effect me simply cannot be put into words. It's spiritual. I really don't know what else to say.

Only recently have Nickel Creek emerged as the new number two on the depth chart. Yeah, I've been a fan ever since I first heard This Side many years ago, but it wasn't until I really had a chance to lose myself in Why Should the Fire Die? that I was awaken to how breathtaking the trio can be. Since then, I've just had such a connection to them. Their music has really helped me through some difficult times in the past few months. They were a borderline top ten band before WSTFD, but now? A lock as the second in command.

It gets a little shaky from there down though, depending on how I'm feeling or what I'm really into at that moment.

Mike Garrigan -- previously of Collapsis -- is another artist that has totally come into his own with me over the past couple years. I never was a huge fan of Collapsis while they were around, and probably wouldn't have become such a huge fan of the band's work, or Mike's extraordinary solo catalog if he hadn't joined Athenaeum for the final three or four years of their time together. I would probably actually rate him as actually being a better songwriter than Butch, but just lacking that certain something to put him really over the top.

John Mayer is someone else, a lot like Nickel Creek after him and Athenaeum before him, who meant a great deal to me when I needed an artist to connect with. Room For Squares and Inside Wants Out both hit me right at the perfect time to really inspire me to reconsider where my life was heading. Since then, he's matured into such an even more wonderful talent than he already was. It's amazing to see the evolution of an artist.

Glen Phillips -- along with his past work in Toad the Wet Sprocket -- is another artist that I was a little late hopping onboard with, but in the end have come to really embrace all that his entire catalog embodies. He's another one of those artists, like Mike, who is such a phenomenal songwriter that his style really transcends everyone else in the modern singer-songwriter genre. It also goes without mentioning that the work he has done with Nickel Creek -- as Mutual Admiration Society -- is positively mesmerizing.

I guess I'll leave this as kind of a top six list and wrap things up with the Suburban Love Junkies. Primarily the brainchild of the co-lead singers, Jimmie Finney and Eric Watters, they are a band who should have hit it big during the early 2000s modern rock boom and been huge, but it just never panned out. And as great as they are as a plugged-in four piece, they are infinitely better when it is just Jimmie, Eric and a couple of acoustic guitars. Their songwriting ability plays so much more to a stripped-down approach, it's a damn shame that they haven't put out more work as just the two of then.

Favorite of all-time: Pink Floyd. Without a doubt, the most unique rock band... But in being unique, you can still get into their music and "tap your feet" to it.

Right now: System of a Down. Their music is so cartoonish and out there, yet it is very catchy and melodic at times, it's just extremely addicting.

That's basically my list, minus The Stones(never really got into them) and U2. Add in Skynyrd, Jimmy Eat World(don't know why I like them, not really my type of music at all), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus, Soundgarden, Sublime, Doobie Bros, old Eric Clapton, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Coldplay, Jack Johnson, and Ben Harper.

                Re: Favorite Band(s)?

Wow, quite a topic to tackle. Well...

                All-Time Favorite Band: Taproot
                - Hard to pick the all time favorite, but Taproot gets the nod. I feel no other band has progressed in the rock/hard rock genre as Taproot. Their new cd, "Blue Sky Research" has yet to leave my cd player, and is amazing from beginning to end. "Gift" and "Welcome" are classics from them as well, and both still get plenty of listen from me. Can't say that for any other bands I listen to, where I can listen to any of their cd's still, and enjoy them all from start to finish.

                Other Favorites:
                The Who
                Staind
                Linkin Park
Strata (I know, they only have one CD aside from some tracks when they were known as "Downside", but it's probably my favorite CD of all time)
                Foo Fighters
                Johnny Cash
