Re: Good movies with really bad endings.

I know you guys could give 2 craps about the movies I enjoy BUT I found the ending to be very disappointing.

Last night I couldn't sleep so I popped in the DVD of James Stewart in Billy Wilder's The Spirit of St. Louis which is the story of Charles Lindbergh's transatlantic flight in 1927. It's not that bad of a movie but drags just a bit because most of it is Stewart narrating but he does a helluva job acting I think.

    ANYWAYS

So the end of the movie has him obviously in France and he goes into the hangar where the plane is. He voiceovers something like: "There were 3 thousand people out there and when we (he and the plane) got home there were 4 million waiting for us." and then they show newsreel clips of the tickertape parade in NYC. Next thing you know it's "The End".

The ending came out of left field IMO. I'd have liked to have seen a scene of Lindbergh in the parade with his backers and they congratulate him etc etc or something like that rather then ending the movie on "stock" footage.
