Your Top Ten Albums of 2005

Honestly, I had this big, huge, formatted post planned out for my list where I wrote a quasi-review for each entry and highlighted certain tracks. Then, as I got more into it, I started to realize it would likely be a complete waste of my time since no one here has the slightest bit of interest in 95% of the bands I've ever mentioned. Unlike some people, and websites, I can acknowledge that my tastes are no greater than anyone elses nor any more special. So, instead of being some pretentious schmuck with this over-dramatic list of albums most of you will never hear, I give you this much more simple alternative...

    1) Nickel Creek, Why Should the Fire Die?
    2) Jimmie & Eric (of Suburban Love Junkies), Live In The Attic
    3) Glen Phillips, Winter Pays For Summer
    4) American Hi-Fi, Hearts On Parade
    5) John Mayer Trio, Try!
    6) Honestly, Ghosts Of A Brilliant Past
    7) Rob Thomas, Something To Be
    8) Socialburn, The Beauty Of Letting Go
    9) Red Letter Agent, Burn The Good Ones Down
    10) Sean Watkins, Blinders On

Re: Your Top Ten Albums of 2005

10-Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl
    9-Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
    8-My Moring Jacket - Z
7-Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze
6-Stars - Set Yourself on Fire
    5-Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning
4-The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan
    3-Spoon - Gimmie Fiction
2-The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
1-Broken Social Scene - Broken Social Scene

Just missed: Beck - Guero & Franz Ferdinand - You Could....
Either could be #10, just happen to be liking Howl more at the moment.

Stars is incomplete, I've heard it a bunch, but don't own it. Could easily climb with more listens. Spots 4-9 in general are pretty fluid, the top 3 are set, but the 4-9 can change on a daily basis, none are really MUCH better than the others there.

    Bonus: Song of the Year-
5-Broken Social Scene - "Ibi Dreams of Pavement"
4-Sufjan Stevens - "Casimir Pulaski Day"
    3-Spoon - "Two Sides/Monsieur Valentine"
    2-Stars - "Calendar Girl"
1-The New Pornographers - "The Bleeding Heart Show"

Hopefully I'm not forgetting any, I never thought I'd see the day were I would have a Top 10 so void of NYC rappers.......

      9. Black Market Militia - Black Market Militia
      8. Common - Be
      7. Felt - A Tribute to Lisa Bonet
      6. One Be Lo - S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M.
      5. Brown James - Plain Brown Rapper
      4. Pumpkinhead - Orange Moon Over Brooklyn
      3. Little Brother - The Minstrel Show
      2. Atmosphere - You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having

      - GZA & DJ Muggs: The Grandmasters
      - Kanye West: Late Registration
      - Think Differently: Wu-Tang Clan Meets the Indie Culture

      Yeah..........Justus League/Rhymesayers absolutely ran 2005.

BCC also had a very nice ressurection, IMO.

To all my NC heads on here, since they "New State of Hip-Hop" thread was lost in the EE removal I figured I'd post this here......

You guys really need to check out Brown James. I'd gotten his album (Plain Brown Rapper) a couple of months ago but had no clue he was from NC (Fayetteville to be exact). His sound/style is more NYC. He's got a much different style than LB and Justus League but his album easily the sleeper of '05, IMO. I think it just hit the retail shelves a month ago, but definately check it out. I can't find any type of bio on the kid and have no clue how long he's been in the game.

Just do a search for it, find the link, and ask one of the mods to move it over, it shouldn't be a problem.

Then you're much better off listening to his older stuff, the Whiskeytown recordings, and bands like Old 97's. All far superior to Ryan's current work.
