Funny how you bring up record sales to start the argument..didn't expect that from you.

Genre was still alive and kicking till about 2002, and Korn wasn't a part of it. And if you knew anything about Korn post-Life is Peachy, you'd know Jonathan Davis' song writting has improved immensely. Jon said it himself, he didn't write songs, he let his emotions get the best of him and watever came out of his mouth was the result of it. I'd say the last few albums proved his song writing abilites, but the production was terrible and the only thing redeeming to those albums were in fact his lyrics. See You On The Other Side is the Korn that should have been six years ago minus O'Brien. They've lost too many fans to be the superpower group they were after Follow the Leader. They now live of off their loyal fanbase and there's no way they get back the fans they lost.

If you think about, it's eerily similar to what Metalica went threw when Bob Rock produced the black album. Although they still sold a lot of albums, the hardcore fans felt the change into a more lyrically driven Metalica was a slap in the face as the "music was gone". After that album, Metalica lost A LOT of it's fanbase...which I think is why I think Hetfield started to drink even more.

What? Record sales mean absolutely nothing to me in terms of actual talent. Personally, I have never found anything at all redeeming about Korn. My point was, how can a band's career be "killed" when during the time they were working with O'Brien they were still selling the same amount of albums, if not more in some cases. The only thing that caused a decline in this was when nu-metal, rap-rock, whatever the hell you prefer to call it finally took a nosedive. It isn't that O'Brien killed their sound, it was that no one cared for the sound anymore. That, and all the false promises of every "new album" being "darker like the first." I would say musically they were stuck in a rut, not necessarily that O'Brien caused the rut itself. They just never seemed to be able to turn the corner and put out something that was entirely "new," they were stuck trying to recapture an old sound -- all the "we're trying to return to the darker feel of our previous work" comments -- that just wasn't there anymore.

Honestly, I could care less if O'Brien damaged their career. Personally, the only true meaning he has to me is the great work he did producing the only album Brand New Immortals put out and working with David Ryan Harris on his solo album prior to that. And Korn, like I said above, I have never cared for in the slightest. I just wanted to know why their "killed" career was still managing to churn out successful albums. If you think he did and was the only factor holding them back, then that's perfectly fine by me. I just think there were other factors that were involved.

I have to disagree, nu-metal/rapcore whatever the **** you wanted to call it was alive and kicking at that time of the release of Issues(1999), and Untoucables. (2001) Hell, Limp Bizkit released Chocolate Bull**** in 2001 and it sold 1.3 million units IN ONE WEEK! Don't give me any bull**** about the genre being dead, I agree that Korn might have been in a rut becasue they wanted to change their sound, but they took bad advice form thier management team, the firm in bring Brendan O'Brien to head the charge for the next few albums. I could have less if you have a mancrush on Brendan O'Brien from his previous work, he should have never been involved with Korn.

Uh, I never said anything about having the slightest bit of a mancrush on O'Brien. I said that I thought he did a good job producing two albums. Out of the hundreds of albums, complimenting the man on two of them, when he was essentially working with the same artist, is hardly having my head up the man's rectum.

And I completely agree that nu-metal was still alive in 2001. I never said otherwise. When Issues and stuff like Significant Other were flying off the shelves in '99 the genre was at it's apex. However, when Untouchables came out in 2002, it was already heading towards it's decline. Limp Bizkit was nearing the end of their road and the rest of the genre was doing the same.

And based on what you, yourself, just said, shouldn't the blame be put on Korn's label for killing them, and not O'Brien? He was simply doing his job. Someone contacted him about working with the band, and he did. Why shouldn't their management and label take some of the blame instead of just saying "[O'Brien] killed their career"?

They keep talking about a Pink Floyd reunion, but I'll believe it when I see it. I can't imagine Roger Waters and David Gilmore being able to kiss and makeup. Funny, "keep talking", that's a Pink Floyd song.
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

It was O'Brien who apporached the management team, whom he prolly sucked off and was given rights to work with Korn. Korn won't publically state it, but there's a reason why they didn't resign with Immortal Records, a reason why they fired the firm and a reason why they signed a crazy *** deal with Virgin records...to me, it all adds up to Brenden O'Brien. He wasn't just doing his job, he was the most difficult producer to work with, watch Korn's DVD 'duece'. He wanted Korn (just like Bob Rock did Metalica) to stay focused and CHANGE EVERYTHING that he felt was wrong. I blame Brendan O'Brien the most, but like I said, there's a reason why Korn pretty much cleaned house internally.
