    Paparazzi

    http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/12/30/sta....ap/index.html

Nice to see a new law in place for them.

I saw a special on the paparazzi and I can't believe how much some of them make. Some of them make 6 figures a year. One guy said they're simply doing a job. It comes down to supply and demand. There's a huge appetite for pictures/gossips of celebs. We live in a society where people want to know what they are wearing, what they like to eat, etc....

I must say I sometimes feel sorry for celebs because they have little privacy.
They can't even shop at the supermarket without being left alone.

    Case in point:

But it's something they choose to do. Crap like this goes along with being a celebrity. Do I approve of it? Not at all. It is a fact of life for anyone whose name is in the slightest bit in the mainstream though. I would imagine it gets very frustrating having to deal with stuff like this 24 hours a day, but the flipside of it is no one forced them into the career they chose. It's just the territory.

      BINGO!

Yes it can be harsh at times but that's the life of a celebrity in this day and age. I sometimes feel sorry for politicians I like who get lambasted in the media for one reason or another but I realize that that's the way things are in life.

I dont...they knew exactly what they were getting into. The public wants to know whats going on with famous actors/singers/etc and a celebrity chose to accept that when they took millions of bucks to be in whatever movie.

In August, actress Scarlett Johansson was involved in a minor car crash in a Disneyland parking lot after being followed by paparazzi, and actress Reese Witherspoon said photographers tried to run her car off the road in April.

I disagree. nobody looks at the absolute negative as a determining factor, as its something that should NEVER happen. getting run off the road does not come with the terriotory.

It's like comparing an athlete who gets verbally heckled.. yeah that comes with the terrioritory.. what also comes with the terrioritory, is having very little privacy in public. what doesnt come with the terriortory is getting stuff thrown at you, like recently clinton portis' parents at the skins-eagles game. if you can defend them by saying, they shouldnt be there, you just as bad as them

Extreme cases such as that, certainly not. There is definitely a line, one that has been crossed many, many times both by the paparazzi and celebrities. But having your picture taken while pushing your shopping cart in the parking lot of a grocery store? I don't see why that shouldn't be considered "the territory."

I agree that celebs know what they're getting into but that doesn't mean its right.

I can't believe how sophisticated the paparazzi are. They have contacts with hotels, stores, etc... They will have a team of cars out to hunt a person down.

A question was posed to them. Is their job morally wrong? They all said no. They explained celebs will also use the papazzi to boost their own career. They realize the moment the paparazzi isn't interested in them, is the moment they're no longer in demand.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more cases of celebs or their assistants physically assaulting the paparazzi.

im sure other celebs already do this, but have one photography get all the shots, and split the dough 50-50 with him.. there'd be no chasing if he has pictures of everything that they want

I don't feel sorry for celebrities at all. Publicity, whether its by paparazzi or "legitimate" media members, is the oxygen that all celebrities crave.

Celebs need the publicity machine, of which the paparazzi is a part, as much as the machine needs celebs. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

Ask any celebritity who b*tches about the paparazzi this question: "Would you like it if you received no publicity or exposure at any time, even when you have a new movie/show/book/album coming out, which would lead to an early demise of your career?"

Any celebrity who answers "yes" is a damn liar. A celebrity moaning about publicity is just as phony as a professional musician who claims he doesn't make music to earn money. You have to eat somehow.

                    Take care,

You're kidding, right? These people are taking pictures almost always in a public place, not aiming a gun at the celebs or trying to put their fists into their underwear to give a wedgie.

Of course I disapprove of paparazzi who stalk celebs and use dangerous means to get their shots, such as high-speed car chases. But the best method for any celebrity to deal with the paparazzi is to simply smile for the photo and go on their way. The paparazzi usually just want those one or two "money" shots and will then move on.

There was a GREAT series on the Biography Network called "Paparazzi" that followed a pretty prominent Canadian celebrity photographer named Louie D. It was fascinating to watch how he spotted celebs who were shooting films in Toronto and Vancouver, using a network of contacts at restaurants and hotels as Asianflow mentioned.

The reaction of the celebs was just as interesting. Some were real pricks; others cooperated with Louie, smiled for the pic, and then just went along. After he got his shot, Louie left them alone.

A really interesting series. Not sure if it's still on these days, but well worth watching if you can find it.

also keep in mind that the celebs don't hesitate to abuse the media for their own gains, whoring themselves out for a book, movie, tv series, whatever...you can't have your cake and eat it too

I'm against the Paparazzi that endanger the lives of others. The special I saw also showed the Paparazzi climbing up on trees so they can get some candid shots of celebs inside their homes or backyards. I believe Jennifer Aniston was a recent victim of this when she was topless in her backyard.

I can't believe how determined some of them are. I saw a clip of Britney Spears leaving a restaurant parking lot and 6 cars came out right away to follow her home.
