Firefox Myths(Click the Button!)
I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Re: Firefox Myths(Click the Button!)
I knew most of the other stuff, but FF's security vulnerabilities sure have gotten a lot of attention lately. Does anyone around here actually use Avant?Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: Firefox Myths(Click the Button!)
The amount of security vulnerabilities is actually pretty good considering what IE's had. No software will ever be 100% secure.
Skerik - Avant is just IE with a different interface.
Let's just say this site seems very pro-Opera. I'm not saying Opera is a bad web browser (it isn't), but my guess is the person who did this site has some stake in Opera's success. EDIT - Just saw he was reccomending Avant at the bottom. Maybe he isn't pro-opera!Last edited by mjb2124; 01-16-2006, 04:15 PM.Comment

I don't care what any source says, Internet Explorer does not run faster on my computer than Firefox."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Re: Firefox Myths(Click the Button!)
The entire performance section is a myth itself, I've seen many reliable sources even say that Firefox is clearly faster.
The entire article sounds like he has something against firefox, he can have fun with avant but at the end of the day I still think Firefox is the best out there.Comment

Re: Firefox Myths(Click the Button!)
Since Avant is IE with a different shell, I would think it has just as many security flaws as IE.
Avant is nice, as I used it for about a month. But Firefox is much better, especially with its Extensions and other customizable options.
Take care,

Re: Firefox Myths(Click the Button!)
speaking of firefox, I was forced to uninstall it the other day because it was taking up too much MEM usage K's. It would start off low, but eventually in an hour, it was up to 120,000 K... Since switching back to IE, its only gone as high as 42,000 K.
anyone know whats up with firefox lately?Comment

Re: Firefox Myths(Click the Button!)
Yeah, my memory usage jumped big time after upgrading to 1.5. That's about my only problem though. I have never used IE on my current computer and it runs better than any computer I have ever used. That could be a coincidence though.Comment

Second, IE used in conjunction with XP SP2 does NOT change IE's vulnerabilities to spyware. Firefox IS more secure than IE.
Third, IE is embedded in XP. Of course it's going to load faster. Opera is faster than Firefox, but that doesn't mean IE isn't loading at startup, as the article says.
Fourth, he lists IE's minimum requirements for Windows 98 only. He doesn't mention that Mozilla's requirements are recommendations, not minimum requirements. Microsoft's are minimal requirements.
Fifth, Firefox blocks many more popups than IE.
The "myths" at the bottom of the page are garbage. Firefox was never advertised to block "all" popups or display "all" web pages. He states IE is rated very good at 87% for HTML 4.0. Firefox is rated higher in every category. He goes on to say his "source" is just biased.
The author is obviously anti-Firefox, not very convincing. Any security expert will tell you that IE is the worst browser on the market.Comment
