That teacher needs to be fired and that kid should have stood up for himself, though that's hard to do at the age of 17 in that situation. Poor kid.

I'm pissed, that's ****ing ridiculous. Just classless by the teacher.

I mean, if I were teaching a class, and someone wore UVA ****, I would definitely not humiliate them in the class.

However, I do believe I'd say something in private... j/k...

Someone should force the teacher to sit on the floor and throw bricks at his head for being a PoS

I agree that this teacher should be severly reprimanded/fired IF this is true.

However, I'm waiting to hear how the investigation goes. I'm not sold that the severity of these allegations are true.

They interviewed the kid on the local news last night and I got a very odd feeling that this story was grossly exaggerated. I just got a strange feeling he was probably picked on to an extent, went home and exaggerated the story to mom and mom saw $$$ in a lawsuit against the school district.

            Probably.

I can't imagine any teacher ordering his fellow students to throw rolled up paper at another student, and the students actually complying as well. Doesn't seem too likely.

Nor can I. However, if it did happen.....woah......No excuse for an adult to act that way. None at all.

I'm not sure teachers can be fired though. I know they have the teacher's union and tenure and all that other stuff so I don't know what would happen if this proves to be true.

When i saw the special on 20/20 about the teachers union its like their untouchable and for something like this i doubt this person gets fired.

Oh yeah and i wouldnt be pissed at the teacher i'm more pissed at my son for acting like a little p#ssy he better learn to stand up for himself

Ah, i saw this on the local news.

This is gonna sound awful, but it serves him right. I'm not saying he should be forced to wear a Steeler shirt just because he's from Pittsburgh, but he could have some common sense.

When virtually everyone else is wearing Black and Gold and you wear Blue and Orange, what do u expect is going to happen?

It's like the Steeler fan in Denver who had Steeler stuff all over his car. You know what happened to his car? It was keyed. Serves him right. It's called common sense.

It's like wearing the color red in a heard of bulls. You're just asking for punishment.

To reiterate, I'm not saying it was right what the teacher did, but I'm saying the issue could have been avoided if the student used some common sense.

Re: If this happened to my child

In our district, you need to have "just cause" to be fired. There is no "tenure". As a first-time teacher, you're on probation for the first 2-3 years and can be fired/let go with no excuse, just "see ya". After the 3rd year, there has to be a reason for your departure and whatnot.

Yeah, the union would probably step in, but in a case like this, I don't know what they could do.

Did you see what class this was in? Ethnicity class. Think that this was a probable demonstration by the teacher about singling students out based on some surface quality and trying to make a point (even though it went a little astray)?

We rib kids all the time here in Packerland about wearing Vikings and Bears jerseys...and they play along. If this kid thinks the teacher is going to be vengeful the next semester, he's gotta be kidding. As a teacher, I'd be too ashamed (if I still had my job) to act out of spite on the kid.

Maybe he's proud of his team.

Maybe he wants to show how proud he is.

Things like this shouldn't happen, but the way you make it sound like it should.

Fighting about sports is the worst reason to fight EVER. This should not have happened.

The kid is 17 not 7. The teacher probably just got a little carried away with the joking, but come on guys, some of you are acting like he tried to kill the kid. Seems like the kid and the teacher are both lacking in social skills.

Just by looking at that kids picture I could tell you that

Common sense would dictate that a grown adult would act like an adult and not like the kids he is teaching. I can see teasing and such for other kids, but from the teacher himself to this extent, no.

                              Exactly.

Even if he was an "outcast" I doubt kids would do that at a high school.

If it's true, it's a disgraceful story. But I have my doubts about this story.
