I am utterly amazed when people like you bash someone's on-air work as though it were some easy thing to perfect. I'd LOVE to sit you at an anchor desk, give you a few pages of copy and a teleprompter and watch as you stumble your way through a few highlights. No offense, but in all liklelihood, it would be a train wreck.

Linda Cohn is 100 times the broadcaster that Lisa Guerrero, Jillian Barberie, and Jill Arrington are, COMBINED!!
Don't forget that they also have to deal with constant chatter in their ear. That alone would throw me off without a bunch of practice...

        TJ:

I don't think any of us are saying we're better than Linda Cohn. And I sure as hell think she's better than Guerrero and the other members of the T*ttie Patrol who masquerade as sports reporters.

But if ESPN is supposed to be the gold standard of TV sports news, then Cohn doesn't stack up, in my opinion, especially compared to some of the greats who have passed through the "SportsCenter" desk, such as Berman, Patrick, Olbermann, Steiner, Mayne, Mees, Ley, Robin Roberts and so on.

I just think Cohn is limited as a writer. She also has a very smug aura on air that annoys me.

And as for multi-tasking, has Cohn ever hosted "Baseball Tonight?" From what I've read, that might be the hardest job on ESPN because you're trying to host an hour-long show with studio analysts while managing the constant receipt of live score updates, and the constant chatter from the producer in your ear about those updates.

Anyone who hosts "Baseball Tonight" is pretty talented in my eyes, even if I'm not a fan of the sport or the show. Ravech is pretty damn good. I worked in the media as a sports reporter in the same market as him 17 years ago; he was a weekend TV guy there!

        Take care,
        PK

It's her job to do her job properly with as minimal errors as possible, in the opinion of most here, and I would imagine a lot of people outside of OS, she isn't capable of doing that. This is far different than someone like myself sitting in her chair and attempting to do her job, just like it would be very different if I were to be under center for the Lions and trying to replace Joey Harrington. Sure, they may suck at their job, but it is just that, their job. Not mine. I am not trained to be a sportscaster, nor will I ever be. She has been for a great number of years, and has been doing SportsCenter for over a decade now. I expect far more from someone than what she routinely produces. Just like if she were to attempt and teach an algebra class to a group of high school kids -- my chosen profession -- and would likely do a very lackluster job, it would be expected. Comparing someone who is not even remotely involved in the same field as someone who is is just plain moronic.

Yep, agreed. And let's face it folks, reading off a go****n teleprompter is not the most challenging task in the world. It's a bit more complex than collecting french fries from the grease dispenser at McDonalds, but compared to most jobs that require critical thinking and strategic planning, reading from a screen isn't that tough. Plus, it's an entertainment job, so that automatically nullifies it from any qualification of importance in society.

Re: Where Has Linda Cohn Been?

I haven't heard one credible reason from anyone as to why they dislike Cohn. Whether you think the job is a piece of cake or is a highly honed skill. She doesn't make anymore mistakes than the next anchor & doesn't stumble over her words like Chris Berman. The only beef the majority of you have is that she doesn't look like your typical blonde bimbo.

She's an outstanding radio host, the times she's filled in for Dan Patrick. She did a really good job on the "This is SportsCenter" special, as one of the hosts for that.

In my opinion, what she does is more difficult than what the sideline reporters do. WAY more difficult. For the most part, those sideline reporters are fed information. Some even have their stuff written for them by producers.

I've seen with my own eyes, an unnamed "eye-candy" sideline reporter running through a script with a producer, as the producer was explaining to her how to say certain players' names and what to emphasize in that individual segment. Those "eye-candy" sideline reporters don't do jack!

There are, of course, exceptions. Bonnie Bernstein, for one, does all her own work. Holly Rowe does as well. Michele Tafoya is another one who really does her homework.

But most of'em? They simply put on the makeup, show up, read the script while looking pretty, then they go out drinking afterwards.
That's just it TJ....she's good on the radio and when she is away from SC. She, as well as many others, have fallen into the trap that you have to say something catchy or set-up a story with some sorry cliche if you are on TV and that is what is driving SC into the ground.

In what way? What makes her writing weaker than someone else's? & does she write everything that she reads? I've heard a number of anchors on many occassions repeat what was said on the 11 or 6pm broadcast.

Examples, please. "Weak writer" is a criticism that just hangs in the air w/no specifics.
