    Donnie Darko

Alright. I just finished watching this movie for the first time and wow. I can barely wrap my mind around it. If I can find it, I'm going to pick up the Director's Cut ASAP - however, I'm curious who all has seen and what exactly they thought about the film.

    Donnie Darko

    Great website.

I have both and the Directors Cut explains the movie so it actually makes alot more sense and leaves less to the imagination. Now I can see why some people would not like that and hence think it's not as good as the theater version. Personally I watched the theater version about 20 times and figured out as much as I thought I could (which I would recommend) and then when

I got the Directors Cut I was able to see what I thought compared to what the director meant which was cool so this is what I'd recommend for everyone to do. The Directors Cut in my opinion is really cool, it will also blow your mind because it has other scenes in it that are just completely cool and a bit more "out there" so i'd highly recommend watching it. However I'd say watch the first one a few times to get your own opinions before doing so.

In case you haven't figured it out this is one of my top 5 movies of all time and I guess it doesn't help it comes from the era of the 80's when I grew up so there's a bit of nostalgia factor to it as well. But my favorite movies in general are ones that pose bigger questions that leave you pondering long after the movie ends and this is definitely one of them.

Thought it was one of the most stupid and boring movies ever. Really.

Its usually either someones favorite movie or they don't like it at all. This movie has gotten huge because of the hype machine, and is a cult classic. A lot of these people who love it, even some of you in this thread, probably don't even understand it completely....

But, with that said, I enjoyed the movie. Not my favorite movie, but its solid.

Both money. Evil Dead, Matrix, BE, are all decent movies but far from my favorites....but its all relative.

I've seen the directors cut once, and that is all. I watched with somebody who had seen it many times and sort of explained some things afterwards that cleared up some questions I had. I like the movie, need to watch it more, but as far as I understand it, it is pretty good.

I can understand the statement about "love it or hate it", people who watch it will either be interested enough to watch it again, and again or they will just be like "what the hell? that sucked..."

Agreed. But I'm sure there are some people out there who understood the whole thing, but still didn't like it.

little tidbit. Although the film was shot in Cali, it's about Midlothian, VA. Guy went to Midlo High School which about 2 minutes from my house. Since I'm also hoping to be a writer... It would be awesome to have 2 big movie writers from a town like Midlothian... Back on topic... I thought the movie was pretty damn good. At first I didn't get it, but I went back and watched it again and I picked up little things about the movie that made me appreciate it a lot more.

donnie darko was easily one of the most overrated movies i've ever seen. people like to term anything that involves a bit of thought as "amazing". it was alright at best.

                            I tried to like it.

It's okay, but I wouldn't watch it again.
