Star Wars opinion
Lets say someone hasn't seen any of the Star Wars movies and you wanted to be the one to 'introduce' them to the movies. In your opinion, would it be best to watch episodes 4-6 and then 1-3 (like how they were made), or in chronological order (1-6)?Tags: None -
Re: Star Wars opinion
I'd just say no to chronological order. The first three movies are so much better anyway, and that's where the great story is. If you go chronologically, they may get bored with it and never even get to Eps. 4-6. If Lucas had done a better job on the three prequels, my opinion might have been different.Originally posted by BigRedLets say someone hasn't seen any of the Star Wars movies and you wanted to be the one to 'introduce' them to the movies. Hm...I thought the third one was the best out of all six. -shrugs-Originally posted by BirdsonbatI'd just say no to chronological order. Re: Star Wars opinion
We had a thread exactly on this at one time and I really liked Anaxamander's order:
I have watched the 6 movies in this order twice now and I agree, it is very good this way, and I think that it would be a good order for a new Star Wars fan. Here is the order:
4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6
That way, you don't spoil the Vader surprise. You find out Vader is Luke's father, then you learn the history with 1-3, then you get the conclusion.

Re: Star Wars opinion
I would treat each trilogy as entirely separate movies. I would not mix all of the episodes together as the stories in each trilogy are totally different.
The original trilogy should be watched first. It shows the birth of a Jedi from beginning to end. The scenes on Dagobah leading up to Luke's confrontation of his father are vital to understanding what makes a jedi.
The prequels show the fall of a jedi. It skips all of the training since it expects its audience to already know what a jedi is.
You show the birth of a jedi and then you show the death. That's what makes the most sense to me. Plus, the original trilogy is 100x better and you want the audience to be hooked from the start.Comment

aukevin, that seems like the best order. It kinda serves as kind of... a flashback, of sorts?Rose City 'Til I Die

Re: Star Wars opinion
The problem with showing them as 4,5,1,2,3,6 is that there is too long a viewing gap between Empire and ROTJ. Three movies is definitely enough time to forget certain elements about certain characters. Nothing is mentioned in Phantom or AOTC (IIRC, except the movie poster for 1) about the Anakin/Vader link so you can show those before 4, if so desired. However, it is true that the first original Star Wars is the attention grabber, so my proposed orders would be:
1,2,4,5,3,6 if you think Phantom and AOTC are enough to capture a viewers' interests
or
4,1,2,5,3,6 otherwise
The only problem with showing 6 last is that it has the better shocker about the whole twin thing, but I still think its decent..NBA 2K18 ratings for several seasons generated from advanced analytics using the SportsCrunch system:

Re: Star Wars opinion
I agree. The original three had great characters and meaninful story lines. You cared a heck of a lot more about Luke and Han Solo than any character in the new ones. The new ones were high on special effects and short on story. Hayden Christenson's acting was so bad in episode 2, its simply hard to watch.Originally posted by BirdsonbatI'd just say no to chronological order. Re: Star Wars opinion
I agree with you. He did however improve a great deal in episode 3, at least in my opinion. Well, except for the scenes with him and Padme. Painful. Thank Lucas for those since he doesn't know how to write them.Originally posted by rudyjuly2... Hayden Christenson's acting was so bad in episode 2, its simply hard to watch.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: Star Wars opinion
After watching Christenson appear on the tonight show promoting episode 3, I know why he was cast. In real life he acts like the character he's portraying.Originally posted by rudyjuly2Hayden Christenson's acting was so bad in episode 2, its simply hard to watch.
I agree that it just doesn't work, but it just shows that Lucas had this vision of how Anakin was supposed to behave - and he picked an actor who actually is like that."We were expecting a miracle with Elite, but instead we got Jesus at halfcourt."
