good point there tigs. I've only watched O'Reilly to see what the next outlandish thing he'll say next. I think he gives his guests short shrift when interviewing them. He seems to love using his show as a bully pulpit. If I were a guest i'd cuss him out and walk out the set/studio.

Why? Thats what he would want you to do. What you need to do is sit quietly while he talks and then drop some double talk on him that makes him look foolish and when he tries to interupt remind him that you sat quietly through his spiel.

I feel you on that... I think many hosts that are decidely one sided on thier views like to have guess on thier shows just so they can brow beat them in front of thier audience. I remember Chris Rock had this black republican on his show on HBO... I forget the guys name but he was a major consertive in the congress, and the guy would try to make a point and Chris Rock kept cutting in with a stupid joke and you could tell it was frustrating the guy and it was even more frustrating to watch. I think its a unwritten law that as a host you can't allow your guests to seem more intelligent or more interesting than you.

I dont have an issue listening to these shows because I like to stay informed on what people who dont necessarily have the same views as I do are thinking, I also enjoy a good debate, but talk shows are always one sided and in the end of the day the host will always get the last word so your point may get lost in the shuffle.

O'Reilly is a huge joke of a windbag. I can't believe that a show like "The Colbert Report" can exist(which brilliantly parodies the self-righteous O'Reilly), and people can still watch the "Factor" and take themselves seriously. In fact, the show's egocentric one-sidedness is so overblown, it qualifies as self-parodic.

Well, at least viewers can take solace in the fact that Bill comes from the highest journalistic pedigree, "Inside Edition" and its phantom Peabody Awards....

I suspect the O'Reilly factor has high ratings for the same reasons movies like "When a Stranger Calls" can be number 1 at the box office, and people like Britney Spears have 10x platinum records: either A) there are not a ton of brilliant thinkers out there that actually like to engage with and think critically with the material they are consuming, or B) people, like moths to a flame, like mindless entertainment, and O'Reilly certainly provides that. The "Factor" is certainly one of the funniest shows on television, so I could see an attraction there....

As opposed to Oberman's "pedigree" which is Sportscenter?

You can never understand why O' Reilly has high ratings as your arrogance and judging of people that are different than you and do not share your views won't allow you to.

Keep your head in the sand, and keep on judging people.

Jistic I can't say offhand as I barely watch the show. Maybe it's his attitude more then anything else that irks me. The man comes across as the judge, jury and executioner when it comes to social and political affairs.

                  Are you serious?

In April 2004, he claimed “they’ve lost billions of dollars in France” as a direct result of his (French)boycott, referring to “The Paris Business Review” as his source. However, no such publication exists.

O'Reilly characterized columnist Bob Herbert of the New York Times as a "terrorist helper" because of his criticism of the war in Iraq and his support of the ACLU.

O'Reilly has stated that the ACLU is "The most dangerous organization in America".

O'Reilly also took to the airwaves after Fox News revealed a poll showing only 42% of the public believed that the War on Christmas was real, and stated: "And the secular progressives made great inroads over the past five years in demanding that stores, other commercial enterprises, towns, villages not say "Merry Christmas" or permit Christmas displays of any kind. And look, if you don't know that, if you don't believe that, don't listen to this program. You're a moron, and I don't say it with all due respect".

On June 20, 2005, O'Reilly called for Franken and all of his colleagues at Air America Radio to be prosecuted as traitors: "Everybody got it? Dissent, fine; undermining, you're a traitor. Got it? So, all those clowns over at the liberal radio network, we could incarcerate them immediately. Will you have that done, please? Send over the FBI and just put them in chains, because they, you know, they're undermining everything and they don't care, couldn't care less".

"You know, if I'm the president of the United States, I walk right in to Union Square, I set up my little presidential podium, and I say listen, citizens of San Francisco, if you vote against military recruiting, you're not going to get another nickel in federal funds. Fine. You want to be your own country? Go right ahead. And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it....We're going to say, “Look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead”.

Need more? Wheather or not you agree or disagree with these issues is not the point(we can't discuss politics here anyway, and don't want the thread locked), but you cannot deny these qualify as "outrageous" statements designed to provoke. If not, perhaps your question was the answer, regardless of response.

                    When did I mention Olbermann?

Lets see? You come down on me for:
                    1) Arrogance
                    2) Judging of People
                    3) Rejecting others who don't think like me
                    4) Having my head in the sand

You say this in all seriousness, and yet you're a fan or Bill O'Reilly!?!?!?!?!?!
I'll let you think about that irony for a minute......

Yeah, because it's HILARIOUS to save money at the gas pump and put less emissions into the air. What's the downside? Has the car you drive ever won Motor Trend "Car of the Year"? UNless you make yourself look silly and claim that Motor Trend has a political slant.....

Anyway, what does that have to do with this discussion?

HOw about actually responding to the point instead or taking the easy way out, or, as I call it, "pulling an O'Reilly".

"pulling an O'Reilly"- when faced with a lack of a substantive point or refutation, either shout down, silence, cut off mike, or make non-sequitur insults or accusations.

Why am I surprised you have nothing of substance to say?
