Re: fans of underground rap?
OK I was not even aware that there was a Black Album remix all by 9th.. and I must say.. if Jay had used strictly 9th's production.. I would have had it in rotation MUCH longer. I hardly listened to the Black Album.
I'm not in love with Black is Back.. but I definitely like the vibe a whole lot better than the original release. Thanks for the heads up Xcell, I can't wait to read your review on it.Comment

Re: fans of underground rap?
Artist: 9th Wonder & Jay-Z
Album: Black is Back
Producers: 9th Wonder
9th Wonder got to contribute to the Black Album, which was a dream come true for the young producer. He produced the album's 7th track "Threat" and landed the track spot between Timbaland and Eminem. When you listen to "Black is Back" you realize that Timbaland and Eminem should have possibly lost their spots to Mr. Douthit (9th Wonder) as well.
On this album, every song on Jay-Z's "Black Album" is produced by 9th Wonder, arguably the most touted producer of the underground and North Carolina rap scene. Even his 9th Wonder remix of 9th Wonder's "Threat" was SO SINSURRRR. The sampling of Luther Vandross gave that song the deadpan seriousness that Jay-Z's parsimonious lyrics deserve.
"December 4th" received an upgrade (if you can even imagine), but sadly, my favorite song from the Black Album "Encore" was not as striking. Nonetheless, 9th Wonder crafted beats that scream "long live the Black Album", as it revives many ears who've grown tired of listening to the original because they can't lay it to rest.
This is a must-buy!- Grade:

Re: fans of underground rap?
Artist: Sean Price
Album: Jesus Price Supastar
Producers: P.F. Cuttin; 10 for the Triad (2); 9th Wonder (5); Illmind; Khrysis (4); Mo$$; Tommy Tee; Masse
Either you like it, or you don't. This ideology doesn't just apply to the album but to every song on it. Some songs I loved, some songs I hated, but few songs lay in that grey area. One of the songs I loved... Song of the Year. I'm not embarrassed to say I listened to it 127 times the day I downloaded the album (okay, maybe a little, but it's just that great). It's called "Violent" and it was produced by none other than 9th Wonder. There is some solid production on the album with nine songs done between 9th and Khrysis.
Sean Price's anger-filled, yet comedic look at your average day in the ghetto is never tiresome to listen to. His unique flow and style is what makes us all cherish Sean Price and his past, current, and future work. This album is not spectacular by any means, but it's a nice new taste of Sean Price, and pretty much followed suit with Monkey Barz. Like Monkey Barz, every track is either a bullseye, or an airball.- Grade:

Re: fans of underground rap?
Artist: Redman
Album: Red Gone Wild
Producers: E3; Adam Deitch & Chris "Max" Pinset (3); Timbaland; Pete Rock; Rockwilder (3); Scott Storch; Erick Sermon (3); Da Mascot (2); DJ Clark Kent; Watts; Vitamin D; Tha Chill; Da Omen
The album starts off strong. Good track after good track, it can easily get the party started. Let the disc spin for too long and you end up listening to the same ol' same old. The songs show no clear-cut differences halfway through then what they equip in the beginning, and it can get boring. However, the best song on the album is near the end and features the likes of Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg for one of the best songs about marijuana ever made. Click the album title to Download the cd. It's definetely a good cd to have. Pretty solid.- Grade:

Re: fans of underground rap?
Artist: DJ Premier
Album: Re-Program
Features: Blaq Poet; TEF; Money Boss Players; Skyzoo & Torae; Prodigy; Ghostface Killah; Nas; Styles P, Papoose, & Lupe Fiasco; Jay-Z & Tru Life; Dogg Pound; Joell Ortiz; NYGz & Raw; Stat Quo; Flava Flav; 2Pac, Hussein Fatal, Papoose, & Carl Thomas; Roscoe P. Coldchain & Ab Liva; Bumpy Knuckles & KRUPT MOB; Royce 5'9" & Rell; Skillz
Most of the beats aren't DJ-Premier's best work and he over-scatches on the entire mixtape. It took around a minute and a half to get the Skyzoo & Torae "Git It Done" track to get going and progress. Some big names grace this mix-tape, but it appears that these tracks were saved to use in cases like this mixtape, rather than disposed of in the trash. Listening to this cd leaves the same feeling I get listening to a crappy underground mix, except that all the songs coincidentally are produced by DJ Premier (still don't see how though). More work lies ahead in the future for Primo. He's set to release some new ish in the upcoming months, and thank God. This mixtape was an abomination.- Grade:

Re: fans of underground rap?
I don't know who did these beats, but it wasn't Primo:
Ghostface "Outta Town ****"
Nas "Where are They Now"
Lupe, Styles & Papoose Freestyle
2Pac "Dumpin'"
If I can get my hands on this CD I'll let you know what else he didn't produce. I can't be sure about the others since I haven't heard them, but Primo's style is easy to pick out.xbl gamertag: jiggidyjames72Comment
