Direct TV help or impressions from you guys

    ANYONE, please help me out.

Currently my cable bill is SKY HIGH.... 160 a month. Time Warner. They have been raising the rates and adding extra small charges on my account the last couple months.

For those of you that have Direct TV. How is it?
What negatives do you have with it?
How often do you have signal outages?

Help would be very much appreciated.

Get it with TIVO! In 3.5 years of having it I've had very few outages due to rain-unless you live in Seattle don't even worry about it. HIGHLY recommended.

Damn $160 a month, you should call your local authorities and report a robbery.

My direct tv bill is 43.99.No taxes.I don't have any of the premium movie channels though.

Yeah my bill is a bit excessive as well. about 130 a month for my high speed cable, starz/hbo/and cinemax.

I'll live without the MTV Jams and stuff like that if I can get a better deal through DTV. Does anyone else have a similar package as me, if so how much are you paying through DTV?

Well the 43.99 includes one extra receiver. No local channels, I pay 7 a month to my cable provider for just local channels.A premium movie package is 12 a month and each additional movie package goes down in price.

I dont have Directv anymore, I have Dish again, but trust me when I tell you. Directv is lightyears better than Cable and nowhere near as expensive.

Call Directv right now. Get the Directivo, and for the price you're paying, you'd have more than what you wanted with them.

Cable right at this moment isnt the hottest choice price wise, and who knows what else will come about when FIOS finally hits.

The only reason I don't have DirecTV is because Comcastopoly. I wouldn't be able to see a majority of the Phillies and Flyers games because nobody but Comopoly can have comcast sportsnet.

My bill is about the same as yours, as we have the cable, phone and high-speed internet all lumped into one.... I'd have gone with the dish, but they're prohibited at our apartment complex... Can't wait till we buy a house in the next year or so.... I had DirecTV in New York, and had zero problems. Everything was fine... Signal outages were about nil...

BTW - What area in Raleigh are you in?

Re: Direct TV help or impressions from you guys

if you can get direcTV then do it, i don't have it now cuz i'm waiting for my condo association to put up a shared satelite but i have had it for 5 or 6 years in my past apts and not only is it alot cheaper but it's got alot more channels that are worthwhile, a better guide, a great Tivo (that is dual tuner which is better than regular tv cuz you can record 2 shows on at same time) PLUS you can, if you want, get the NFL ticket which is great if you're hardcore NFL fan.

oh and did i mention it's alot cheaper? I pay about $100 a month for Comcast with HBO/Stars/Showtime and it's about $70 a month on DirecTV I believe. Plus on DirecTV you get even more channels on the regular cable.

The only CON is make SURE you get it professionally installed, I wouldn't try to do it yourself. If you do it yourself it may seem fine and work fine but the first rain you get it will be going on and off. A professional will fine tune it so it never goes out in bad weather unless it's near a tornado. If you're a new DirecTV person then you should be able to get professional installation without charge. Just make sure when the guy is there you have him do EVERYTHING you need done and make sure EVERYTHING is 100% right cuz if he has to come back out he will charge you, only his first, initial trip is free.

They cannot be prohibited at your apt. complex as that is against the law. Check out the FCC site and google a search on apartment satelite law and you will find what i'm talking about. They cannot stop you from installing a dish so long as it meets certain requirements (mainly that it is not in a common walkway or area, for example if you have a porch you can install it there so long as it's not overhanging a common walkway) involving size and location.

When I lived in Dublin OH our apt. complex said the same thing and I told them about the law and that I was installing one anyways and I did, they never did anything about it, you know why? Because legally they can't.

Agreed. on all points. DirecTV is light years ahead of cable, even with out Sunday Ticket. Add in Sunday Ticket, and the difference is astronomical imo.

A buddy at work has FIOS, it's pretty sweet. Supposedly it will be available in my area in the somewhat near future. Although due to Sunday Ticket, I will be getting FIOS for data only.

You know, I thought about that afterwards, but we had just gone ahead with Time Warner because we wanted high speed internet, and at the time, Roadrunner was the only option for that... So we just put that and cable and phone on one bill.
