Re: Direct TV help or impressions from you guys

I like digital cable (Comcast) because it provides every Philadelphia sports team game. On DirectTV, these games are blacked out except when nationally broadcasted.

I also have Comcast cable Internet access and love it.. For me, there is no reason to switch to DirectTV. I use a DVD-R to record programs, movies, etc. The iNDemand is pretty cool, but I rarely use it.

Paying anything close to $160 sounds ridiculous to me, and I imagine you could save a fair amount of money by cutting down on some of the premium channels, etc.

Why is that? Doesn't work that way here.

I think his bill is that high probably because he has the bundled package, like me... We get our phone service, cable and high speed internet all through Time Warner. I forget what our monthly bill is, but it's about $140 or so.

When I lived in Dublin OH our apt. complex said the same thing and I told them about the law and that I was installing one anyways and I did, they never did anything about it, you know why? Because legally they can't.
The apartment complex can prohibit where the Dish is located and if the wires can be seen in open view.
Thats why when you get direct tv before they install the equipment Direct TV have you take a waiver sheet to your apt complex and this must be signed before the direct tv guy will even start. That waiver tells the installer where they can and cant place the dish and wires and if they can or cant attach to the dish or wires to the apt building.

You are allowed to have it but sometimes you have to follow the apt rules to get it. but if you can get it, its well worth it price wise.

That's how it is with mine. I pay $125 a month for my cable modem (fastest speed offered for home use), Digital Cable with HD, Dual Tuner HD DVR and HBO.

I thought I also read that games on Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh (station that plays all the Pirates games) is not available on Direct TV. Might be wrong as I haven't looked it up.

Everything was fine... Signal outages were about nil...

Negative... that's MINUS Roadrunner.... WHICH you can get 100% seperately without cable now. I'll keep roadrunner though.

It's 160 for all the movie channels and 3 DVRs.
Yet to get the same deal with Direct TV it'd be 115 for all the pay channels and 3 DVRs. That's still a savings. it's 50 for the middle package on Direct TV and the comparable package on Time Warner is 90 bucks.

I just saw that. It appeared as though it was part of the premier package that was $99/month?

                      Am I reading that wrong?

I had to take out a $100,000 liability policy to put one up at my apartment. It was only $125 per year and it including a $10,000 renters insurance policy, which came in handy after Hurricane Katrina.

Uhh why? No satelite can cause $100,000 of damage.

Well if you have compared package to package, feature for feature at those prices, it is a no brainer to switch to DirecTV.

I have had DTV for 6 years and DTivo with locals for about 4 of them. Rain fade not an issue. At first, DTV's signal was much better than Digital cable, but I think over time they have added more compression and this may no longer be true. It was very noticable when I first switched. The local feeds come from my local cable company...just beamed back to the satelite then to me, so local channels(the magor networks) are definately not as good of quality vs the rest of the channels. Since that is still true, I have a feeling DTV's signal is still better than digital cable even with more compression.

They just raised the prices, my new bill came in at $63. That is the total choice plus with local channels. A DVR charge and one extra reciever. Not real happy my bill just went over $60, but I don't think I could get better going cable.

The compareable price for Cable with what you have is 95 bucks in my area. Which is why this household would like to cut the bill nearly in half.
