    The Village/M. Night Shyamalan

I have to admit, I saw this for the first time opening day and thought that it was of the worst movies that I've ever seen. If I can find the old thread of my first impressions I'll revive it. However, it was on Encore this morning and I decided to watch it again... and holy crap! It seemed like a complete 180 from the first time that I saw it. Maybe I matured, or maybe I knew that I wasn't expecting a horror movie. I don't know.

Granted, it's still not a terrific movie by any means, and all of Shyamalan's other movies are better IMO, but this movie was much better the second time around. I was wondering what everybody else thought, especially if you've seen it a second time.

Also, do you guys like Shyamalan's movies? I want him to continue writing and directing movies to see what else he comes up with. The only thing that detracts from his style is the slow-burn effect, especially in the dialogue.

I saw it in the theatre on opening weekend as well, I think. Haven't seen it a second time yet. I actually liked it the first time around. Truthfully, I like all of his movies. I saw some of "Signs" on network tv last night (I hadn't seen it since the theatre) and remembered how much it kind of freaked me out. I love movies like "Signs" or "Fire In the Sky" when they deal with aliens. It's the only stuff that really freaks me out with movies.

Shyamalan has made a few good movies... but the guy is cocky and smug as hell. I can't stand him, personally.

Never saw the Village... heard it was horrible. Sixth Sense, Signs (minus the ending) and Unbreakable I thought were all above average.

The Village I thought was cool with a neat ending.

I thought The Village as a good flick. Nothing like his previous works in terms of quality, but then again if you've seen any of his other films you know to expect a big twist in the end.

I never saw the village, sixth sense was very overrated, can't remember unbreakable, but I loved Signs.

I think, like I said, what I didn't really like about it the first time around was that I was expecting something completely different. When reviewers say things like "Scariest movie since The Ring", I try my best to go along with expectancies somewhat similar to what they say. But, there was nothing to claim this a horror movie anyway. There are only two loudish sounds the entire movie, and that's really it.

By the way, I heard that a simple sound effect was removed from this movie to give it a PG-13 rating rather than an R rating. Weird, eh?

THis movie was garbage. Not going to spoil it for people who haven't seen it, but I was definately disappointed with how the plot unfolded.

I loved Sixth Sense and Signs. I thought Unbreakable was pretty good but I found The Village to be a huge letdown. I wont see it a 2nd time as I already wasted about 2 hours on it the first time. Still, I'm very impressed with his past work and look foward to watching whatever he does next.

He has a movie coming out this summer. I forget the name though...

                    Edit: Lady in the Water.

Apartment building superintendent Cleveland Heep (Giamatti) rescues what he thinks is a young woman from the pool he maintains. When he discovers that she is actually a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the journey back to her home, he works with his tenants to protect his new friend from the creatures that are determined to keep her in our world.

I checked IMDB, and I'm going to go ahead and guess that it's Lady in the Water.

                      Edit: Nevermind, you found out.

I dont think the Village was as good as Sixth Sense or Unbreakable, but dont think it was as bad as a lot of people made it out to be.

I saw a trailer for that awhile ago and it looks really weird.

I was one of the few who enjoyed the movie the first time I saw it in the theaters...I figured out the deal halfway through, but I still enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty good but I like most of his movies. The only one I didnt dig was Unbreakable, but I didnt go into it with an open mind and I have yet to watch it again (which I want to do)

Point blank the man is a creator. He likes to write whatever comes to his mind.

                              I can't hate on that.

While the Village may never be a Best Picture type movie, it's a story. I enjoy stories better than most of the CGI infected movies out there. So, I enjoy all of Shyamalan's works.
