Man, I love South Park! lol I am embarrassed to say that being 34, but oh well. I never laugh as hard in the show where Kenny didn't want his mom to get pregnant, so he keep hitting his dad in the nuts lol. And the whole show was the dad talking about his shatter balls. lmao!Comment

I used to like Family Guy early on, but relying COMPLETELY on random pop-culture references for humor held together by threadbare connections has gotten so old so fast. No wit, no underlying unity to the arc of an episode, it jumps around like a guy high on coke at a party who THINKS he's funny.
Shows like the Simpsons (well, in it's early days) and South Park will always be funnier to be because the humor seems to grow organically from the episodes and their stories. By contrast, Family Guy episodes seem written AROUND the "everything-AND-the-kitchen-sync" references, making it come off as forced and increasingly desperate.
South Park has more resonance because it's topical and sly, has good stories, and is masterful at social/political satire. The show will have longevity and resonance for that reason, I think.
I haven't seen the episode yet, but I'm thinking they might speak to some of my arguments.I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

I think FG's problem is that they never truly developed the characters so the show became very formulaic:
1. have a basic story
2. throw as many pop culture references as possible
3. try to fit in some musical number
4. Oh no! we forgot we're telling a story! Let's wrap it up
Now they're paying for that formula because there's no emotional attachment to the characters and the stories are paper thin all the time.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Interesting stuff.
"In fact almost everyone in town looks down on 'Family Guy', which is generally thought of as clever but basically just a composite of other peoples work. It's like a Puff Daddy song, just samples of stuff other people created patched together."

Re: South Park Thread
I love Family Guy... but I Laughed My *** off when they were ripping it for having interchangeable jokes that didn't have any relevance to the main plot at all... ITS SO TRUE...
I also burst into laughter when Family Guy was on one of the TV's...
and Peter is like "Remember that time I was a Carrot Cake?"
I was like... Family Guy WOULD do something like that... that was so hilarious to me.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

South Park>Family Guy.
The thing I love most about South Park is how there are different types of comedy. You can have this great social commentary one moment and and poop joke the next...that contrast is great.Comment
