    Re: South Park Thread

I like Family Guy alot, but last night's South Park is already one of my favorites. Can't wait for part 2. Sad that it took me so long to notice that in FG, and I saw the inside jokes they were making on scientology. South Park just keeps getting better and better and thank goodness they haven't rested on their laurels, unlike other shows I won't mention.

But will I watch FG Sunday? Yes because nothing else is on.

Family Guy has been stale ever since coming back, but its not like South Park is the most intelligent show out there either. They rely heavily on re-using plots and gimmicks. Last night's episode was an example in that the plot involves Cartman pretending to care about something and wanting to do the right thing, only to have his selfish motives revealed later on. They do this often and last week's smug episode was basically the hippy episode with a new coat of paint. I think South Park is in a bit of a rut and they have to rely on shock value by stirring up some controversy and doing something taboo to create humor. It's hit and miss mostly, but over the past year they've definitly had more "hits" than Family Guy. I'll still take Futurama over the two (or the Venture Bros., I love that show).

              Re: South Park Thread

The first time I watched Family Guy was over a little over a year ago. My friends all watched it and thought it was the funniest thing and said how I would love it. So one day I went over a friends house and checked out the DVDs she had thinking "sweet, a new show for me to watch."

I wasn't impressed in the least.

My gripe is that the jokes were very predictable. Time after time it was "oh no, dont say... he said it."

So I was very pleased to see South Park make fun of Family Guy... and it was SOOOO true what they said.

I've been watching South Park since its first season(there's was a stint of about two years when I lost interest.

They are so good anymore because they relate to culture today. And I love how they do stuff that is so recent. The turn-around on an episode is so quick.

I agree, but the shots at family guy were rather large in the episode. Parker and Stone have commented before on how they hate being compared to family guy and they laid their case pretty much out in the open on why they think they shouldn't be compared.

The joke on people putting their heads in the sand and fake translations were great too. I also never get tired of seeing cliche hollywood sequences ripped.

I have never been too big on South Park. Well, let me re-phrase, I was never committed to it. Everytime I watched an episode, I would laugh my *** off, but I never got too into it. But my roomies have a bunch of the DVDs, and they always are watching it, so I have checked it out a lot more lately.

And I too am excited for next weeks episode.

I thought the same thing. I thought I remember reading something over the winter or last fall on OS that was bashing South Park a bit. I've loved the show since it started. Still try and watch every week. Trey and Matt are awesome. Last night's episode was pretty damn funny.

I'm not convinced there will even be a part two. I'm skeptical since they devoted a lot of time showing random clips that are supposedly from next week's episode. It wouldn't be the first time they faked a two-part episode.

I was kinda thinking the same thing.

It made me think of the time Cartman was trying to figure out who his father was and the episode ended. They said the conclusion was to come in a new episode like a month later. Hyped it up like crazy for a month and then showed an episode that only had Terrence and Phillip.

                          People flipped out!

                          Genius.

                            What?

It was about militant Muslims, the Danish cartoons and the people in the country that over-react and treat Muslims differently since the militants react like idiots.

Not scientology, that was like 2 weeks ago.

It's all because the "Trapped In The Closet" episode (Scientology) was supposed to be re-aired for the first time at 9:30 last week.Comedy Central switched it at the last minute because of pressure from Scientology and Tom Cruise (He said if it re-aired he wouldn't promote MI:3, which is a Viacom production, and Viacom owns Comedy Central). Theyre implying that if they give in to the idiot cult Scientologists, theyve made fun of so many people that practically all of their episodes could be protested.

its not about muslims . they are just using it as an example.

                                I don't know.

I guess I kinda see your point...but I'm not sure. Anyway, (as I'm watching it a second time) I have to say that the Big Wheel chase scene is absolutely hilarious.

Edit: Okay, the last part is definately a shot at Comedy Central/Viacom.
