What's the big deal about I-Pod?
I'm thinking about getting a MP3 player of some sort, and I'm completely uninformed on them at this point. Basically, I know everyone mentions the IPod like it's the "standard," but what's the difference in a $150 Ipod and a $50 player bought from Wal-Mart?Tags: None -

Size.
The best thing about the Ipod is the click wheel and how easy it is to navigate through your songs.
Then there's little things like Photo Storage, games, Calendar, putting notes in .txt format into the ipod and being able to shuffle the songs. -

Another company to try out is, iRiver.
They are Korean company.
I now have 2 of their players. Both 20 gigs for 205 bucks off of amazon.com
It supports FM playback. A Voice Recorder. a Picture Viewer. A text viewer.
It also has a touch pad much like the iPod... and it's less senstive (which is nice)
not to mention open support for any of the download services.
the iPods are nice, but a bit overpriced.
My Mama Bird mp3 player is a 60 gig Creative Labs Zen Xtra. That cost me 250 from ZipZoomFly.com
it's got nothing extra on it.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment

You what's another sick MP3 player? The 20 gig archos that has video playback. My friend showed me his last week. It's really a nice bargain. The videos are really nice, although the screen isn't that big.Comment

Re: What's the big deal about I-Pod?
If you're just using your MP3 player for music, you can do a lot worse than a 40 GB Nomad Zen Xtra Jukebox, which retails for around $200. I've had one for 2 1/2 years, and it's excellent.
Yeah, it's a touch bigger than an iPod and the navigation isn't as nice (iPod's strongest point), but the sound quality is better and there aren't any Digital Rights Management issues.
Oh, plus it's a hell of a lot less expensive than an iPod of comparable size.
iPods are nice players, no question. But there are better players for less money out there if sound quality is more important to you than navigation, size or being trendy.
Good luck!
Take care,

Re: What's the big deal about I-Pod?
I only believe that iPods are overhyped in the sense that... why in the hell does somebody need 20,000 songs on their iPod? If they have some... .001 GB iPods for 2 bucks, I'll buy one. But seriously, I can't understand how in the hell somebody NOT ONLY has the want to listen to all of those songs, but that has the time and patience to put them all on.
If you asked me to name as many songs as I could in 60 seconds, I bet you I could not name more than 10. Granted, I know many more, but that's just how short-minded I am with things like that to even come up with such a grandeur list.
But, iPods themselves are really something special. My little sister has one, and I think that it's great. I would only be willing to pay for one, however, if it was appropriate to the amount of songs I would listen to, like I said.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

you can come out cheaper on ebay to save a few bucks. The 30gb video appears to seel for about $250-$270. I contacted a guy no CraigsList who has one brand new for $250. Hopefully he gets back to me.Originally posted by hybrizzlei do like the 30 gig ipod. i can watch some videos whenever/wherever i want. theres a ton of programs that allow you to rip dvds onton your computer in ipod format. beautiful.

Wow, the ability to hold an entire MB. Wow. That's awesome.Originally posted by BlzerI only believe that iPods are overhyped in the sense that... why in the hell does somebody need 20,000 songs on their iPod? If they have some... .001 GB iPods for 2 bucks, I'll buy one.
It's all about having your entire catalog at your disposal -- very convenient. It's not about wanting to listen to every single song on the player every time that I take it out of the house, hardly the case. But, say, I want to listen to a random album that I would never remember to bring with me somewhere, or some album that I've downloaded and never taken the time to burn. Guess what, it's right there in my pocket. That's a whole helluva lot easier than carrying around a CD player and a CD case with even like 12 CDs in it. Not only are you limited to those 12 albums, but you now have to deal with organizing and finding the albums you actually want to replace them with. Not a backbreaking task, but made a helluva lost easier when all you have to do is navigate a menu.Originally posted by BlzerBut seriously, I can't understand how in the hell somebody NOT ONLY has the want to listen to all of those songs, but that has the time and patience to put them all on.
Which shows exactly why you have no place in a conversation like this one involving MP3 players. It's not something that is marketed towards you, and it's not something you would have any business owning. I'm not saying that to be rude, but it's obviously the case. It would be like me going into a HDTV thread and saying that no one would ever need a 54" widescreen HDTV because I am perfectly fine with my old 29" and don't watch that much TV in the first place. Just because it isn't appealing to you doesn't mean there isn't a market for the masses.Originally posted by BlzerIf you asked me to name as many songs as I could in 60 seconds, I bet you I could not name more than 10.
