There's only one song anyone needs to know and that is Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb...all other songs are not worthy to hold that songs lunch pail.

I wonder how they do their lists at RS. The only decent way seems to be getting all of your staff to make their own separate lists and compile them based on ranking into one final list(even that is flawed of course). RS seems like they sit down in a room and try to rank songs 1-500 one by one.

Looks good to me. When I look at these lists, I check to see if there are a lot of Beatles mentions. If there are, the list is then deemed good in my book.

Of course, I happen to think there are other great Beatles songs that totally rule my ***:

Day In The Life (Yes I know it was mentioned on the list)
        Day Tripper
        All You Need Is Love
        In My Life
        I Am The Walrus
        Within You, Without You
        Something
        Sexy Sadie

Note that these songs are completely, utterly, 100% mind blowingly kick ***.

I don't think a song should be labeled as the "greatest of it's genre" simply because it pushed the genre into the mainstream. Hip-hop is always at it's best when it's NOT mainstream.

That list should be the 500 most influential songs, not greatest.

I figured Journey's - Don't Stop Believing would at least be in the top 500. No love for journey.

i have no problem with it , to each his own is my stance.nobody is ever going to agree on these things , who are you to label a list invalid or idiotic because you dont agree.
the songs i think are the best many ppl would probably laugh at but obviously i really dont care. as for the rap songs- my favorite genre - i have no problem with them . they are all great songs , its not like they put a bunch of nelly or bow wow songs.

I don't understand why they even make these lists.
