Re: new Goo Goo Dolls cd on the 25th

I gave this album another good listen today, and let's just say I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

The more I listen to it, the more I realize that it's formulaic as hell. Every song blends into the next, as most have that "Iris/Black Balloon" sound to them. In fact, most of the songs on the record sound like a derivative of those two tunes.

The Goo Goo Dolls have settled into a nice formula that guarantees them Top 40 airplay, mucho bucks and the affection of 14-year-old girls everywhere. But this is a dull record, a far cry from the kind of records like "A Boy Named Goo" that marked the Goo Goo Dolls as such a band of promise 10 to 12 years ago.

Really, this is a very, very "samey-sounding" album. It almost sounds like background or elevator music, to be honest. I guess it took me a really close listen today to determine that.

    Take care,
