Re: Greatest American Band of All-Time
The EaglesThere is no place like Nebraska
Dear old Nebraska U.
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest,
Of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
Where they're all true blue.
We'll all stick together,
In all kinds of weather,
For Dear old Nebraska U!
Won't change this signature until Nebraska wins the National Championship...posted 8/16/05 -
Re: Greatest American Band of All-Time
All time records sales in the US:
Top 5 US bands from above:
1. The Eagles
2. Aerosmith
3. Bruce Springsteen (not sure if all of his music has been recorded with the E Street Band though)
4. Metallica
5. Van Halen
Now without looking name the next 2 US bands on the list (answer below or in the link)
Alabama and Journey. Fleetwood Mac most successful lineup is only 2/5 American. Also, hard to believe KISS has only sold 19 million albums in the US with the success they had in the 70's and the sheer number of different albums they have released.Last edited by Tomahawk; 04-21-2006, 10:13 PM.- LETS GO RED SOX!!!

Pearl Jam owes their style to 70s classic rock, you can barely read anything about Tool without seeing a King Crimson comparison, the list goes on. Rock is played out, 99.9% of everythign being done in the last 20 years had already been done in one form or another. Being innovative is a lost art, but that doesn't mean certain bands weren't extremely influential.
Makes me wonder: What genre of music isn't strip-mined? It's one of the reasons why I've gravitated to classic jazz, alternative country (Wilco, Mavericks, Son Volt, etc.) and progressive house and other techno the last five to eight years simply because I listened to pretty much nothing but rock for the first 32 to 35 years of my life.
I still enjoy rock, but there's very little in the genre that amazes me anymore. But I'm often amazed by classic jazz and progressive house.

Re: Greatest American Band of All-Time
Very tough question, hard to name just one band. My top 5 in no paticular order would be...
The Eagles
The Doors
ZZ Top
Allman Brothers
Grateful Dead
Some honorable mentions would be...
Grand Funk Railroad
Boston
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Aerosmith
AC/DC
Van HalenHow I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.Comment

Re: Greatest American Band of All-Time
I'm a little biased, but Kiss has more Gold Albums then any other group (American or European, yes, including the Beatles) of all time. 75 million albums and Gene Simmons is a marketing fool! I know Gene is full of himself but he loves America and the American way. Gotta love that no matter what music you are into. Plus a Kiss show is like no other, pure entertainment, music is secondary to the whole experience. If I wanted the music to sound exactly like the album, I would stay at home as listen to the CD. For 70 bucks I want to be entertained, dammit!!!!Comment
