I dont know what you guys are talking about, Kanye is everything you want in a hip hopper. His beats are real nice, he can write, rhyme and all that. There's more to being a dope mc than just hot lyrics.

besides lyrics what else is there besides mic skills which kanye is lacking in every category .

i love dr. dre albums but to classify his as a good rapper is laughable . same way i feel about kanye .

I am not a rap fan at all.... But I would take Jin/The Emcee over any of those guys listed at the start of this thread. If you are basing it purely on lyrical and vocal talent and not on popularity, he blows em all out of the water.

              -Camron
              -50 Cent
              -Jadakiss

....These 3 def should'nt be on this list.

              -Ludacris
              -Kanye West

....Ludacris is popular but his music is different now and nothing special and Kanye's first cd was great and his second was not so good so idk about him either.

You cannot be on this list simply cause you sell records, that doesn't make you a great MC, especially in todays market. The only lyrical rappers up there and the ones that should be on that list are.... TI, Lil Wayne, Game, Talib Kweli and Beanie Sigel.

50? Wow. Yeah he knows how to make hits but after a couple hours listening, you realize how much the music sucks.

I like Luda but only in small doses.

I liked Lil Wayne back in the day, in the Hot Boyz days. His voice is kinda irritating.

Very good comparison to Dre. Although he used a ghost writer most of the time. Kanye is aiight but he is'nt nothing special lyrically. He has his moments but for the most part he's a good songwriter.

Re: MTV's 10 Candidates For The Next 'Greatest MCs Of All Time

MAN! I've been a hip hop fan for 20 years and this is the most depressing list of 'Next Generation' MC's that I've ever seen. I know hip hop most of hip hop has gone into the dumps BUT if these are the candidates for next 'Greatest MCs' then hip hop is going to hell in a hand basket.

The only MC's I would prefer on this list is Ludacris and Jadakiss. I'm not a big fan of 'Dirty South' hip hop BUT Luda doesn't sound like a traditional 'Dirty South' rapper. He actaully sound more New York in his music. Jada has sharp techniques in his flow BUT I'd wish he would get ONE solid producer behind him instead of getting different kinds of producers on his tracks.

The rest of them you can keep. And no disrespect to Kayne because I consider him more of a producer than an MC.

And has anyone noticed some names that are not even on this list?
                    Emiem
                    Mos Def
                    Common
...just to name a few. Or maybe since their names have been mentioned on the Greatest MCs of all time that their names won't appear on this list.

And would it be a pain to add some underground hip hop artist in this mix? Most of the underground artist I would consider better than over half the people on this list. MCs like Immortal Technique, GLC, Eastwood or Techniec.

Not at all. I like Jin but he is not in jada's, bean's, or ti's class.

Don't forget about Beanie Sigel. Beans is nice with his flow and lyrics. I wish he would do more battle-oriented tracks to really display his skills, but he's gotta do what he's gotta do to sell more records, and I understand that.

Exactly. I've personally had little respect for MTV's treatment of hip-hop music ever since they dumped Ed Lover, Dr. Dre and Fab 5 Freddy -- the only ones on that network who had really cared for the music as an art form and played mostly videos of good stuff on the air. But now? Heh, this excuse of a music station is a joke. It's way too corporate, political, and money driven, just like many of the record labels, television stations, radio stations, etc. dealing with rap music these days.

It's obvious what we must do when we see these lists in the future...

when we get the next 10 "Greatest MC's", I am going to automatically label them the worst 10 MC's and avoid their music altogether.

Few guys are exceptions on this current list, but this is why I don't watch MTV, or listen to the radio.

Like DJ Drama and Little Brother have done... Real needs to start recognizing Real... we need to bring the Underground to the Surface. Now that would be a spectacular "Movement".

If someone had a list of folks who score five mics or something we should do an OS list with a poll. I dont know where to get that info or else I would do it.

I think since those guys have been around for a while they can't be the "Next Greatest MC". Common's first album came out in '92, Mos Def had the Thermodynamic whatever crap in the mid 90's and Eminem had his first album in '98 I think it was. But I have no clue how Kweli gets on that list then.

I think the true battle for the Next Greatest Emcee should come down to...

                                - Phonte
                                - Blueprint
                                - Murs
                                - Immortal Technique

There isn't a mainstream artist out there nowadays who'll be a great emcee when it's all said and done.
