Re: Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam

I recieved today for the Ten Club.

The first 5 songs or so are straight ahead rock n roll. I like the guitars moreso in this release vs Riot Act.

There are a few ballads and mid tempos thrown in as well. The last song has a Yellow Ledbetter feeling to it. Starts off like a ballad and increases the tempo midway through the song.

Overall, I like it alot. I've only listened to it once.

Funny, I didn't preorder from them because they said there was a chance you wouldn't get it by May 2, go figure.

How is the New Years show form '92 that they gave you along with it?

Some people have been able to buy the album in Wal-Marts around the country.

Yeah, that's what I heard, too, Wal-Mart has been selling them.

As far as the live 92 NY disk, it really good. There are a few I've never heard before like Speed Wash and Sonic Reducer, 1st 2 songs, but they are good rockers.

        Why Go
        Even Flow
        Alone
        Garden
        Daughter
        Dirty Frank(don't know that one)
        Oceans
        Alive
        Leash
        Porch

53 minutes I think. I got through to Alive.

Speed Wash is a faster version of the song "Wash", it is on the "Lost Dogs" double b-side/rarities album, clever, eh? And "Sonic Reducer" is a cover, can't recall who the original band was, but it is a terrific live cover they play every now and then. Sounds like a nice bonus, I hear the version you got is a bit different than the store version too, some expanded liner notes, pretty cool.

Any more thoughts on the album?

Sonic Reducer was originally done by the Dead Boys I believe.

Thanks for the update on Speed Wash and Sonic Reducer.

I don't know what the store version is, thought I saw like a brown wrapper. This one opens and closes like a book, similiar to Vitalogy, I love the blue cover.

Life Wasted, WW Suicide, Comatose, Severed Hand, and Marker in the Sand are good rockers. Parachutes is a nice ballad, Unemployable is a mid tempo song, Big Wave is a short song rocker, Gone is a nice ballad, Army Reserve is a mid tempo, Come Back is a ballad and Inside Job starts slow and builds to a nice mid tempo.

That's all after one listening. I have to let it grow on me and play it more.

Listened to it tonight, and my first impression is that there was absolutely nothing that stuck out and caught my attention. Maybe that will change after a couple more listens.

Got my pre-ordered copy from the Ten Club this afternoon. Been listening to it since. It will take me time before I make any definitive statements, but I'm REALLY liking it so far. I think that "Inside Job" is an amazing song, and a perfect album closer.

Have not gotten a chance to squeeze in the 1992 Academy Show.
I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

It is actually worth reading, Stephen Thomas Erlewine is usually a terrible reviewer. A lot of his reviews are twice as long as that yet never mention more than one or two songs by name. He just generalizes albums and you really can never get an idea of why he gives most of his final scores. But he mentioned just about all of the songs in that review and you actually get a feel for what the songs sound like, which is very surprising from his reviews.
