    Re: NFL Draft overkill

Eh, it happens once a year. Better more than less. You can always opt to not watch, but I like having the option to be able to tune in; especially since I don't follow the college game as closely.

I think most of the ESPN personalities are annoying morons, but they are doing their job, and I don't mind the excessive draft coverage, because otherwise I would not care about the draft at all. Without any draft coverage, teams just draft names with no history, and that's not exciting to me.

        Re: NFL Draft overkill

Its not to me..I love it more and more each year and to me it is an event and not just a draft like every other sport.

Im part of the group that says, you dont like it , dont watch it. I dont like hockey so when hockey highlights or talk comes on, I flip the channel..its a rather simple thing to do.

I will say, I dont watch a whole lot of tv. I get most of my information from reading the net. So, maybe thats why I dont feel its overkill because I dont have the televison on a whole lot to see it all the time.

I totally understand what you're talking about. The funny thing is with all this pre-draft coverage. NOTHING HAS EVEN HAPPENED YET! We've only had on trade so far. Yes, that was newsworthy. However, all the speculation is crazy. I'm sure you have damn near 25 teams that have no clue what they're going to do.

            Re: NFL Draft overkill

Good post, and I agree. But at the same time you as a viewer have a choice....don't watch.

I haven't even watched that much coverage, cuz it's too much. I'll watch the actual draft tomorrow, and that should do it.

But I'm from the era where there wasn't that much coverage at all. Just some local paper, and Mel Kiper's draft guides. No internet etc. But hey, just change the channel, it's easy.

            ....and watch Baseball Tonight.

actually we dont.. i want nba and nhl and even world cup news and highlights. instead I get 10 minutes of SC coverage devoted to NFL... yet they have their own show... the hype train is overtaking everything.

Football, as a whole, is getting out of hand.

Even in the off-season, football gets more press than the NBA Finals or the Olympics/World Cup.

I mean... who gives a flying f*** if Joey Harrington looked good in passing drills? No need to give him a 5 minute segment with highlights of passing in practice.

And what else do we need to know about Vince Young, Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush? I'm really interested to see if they wear boxers/briefs, what's their favorite type of pizza and when their first kiss was. In fact, we need to have a weeklong series on SportsCenter devoted to that, instead of watching the stupid World Cup or Stanley Cup or NBA Finals or MLB Regular Season.

I'm tired of football and the 23.6 hours a day it takes up on ESPN or any other sports media outlet.

I actually care more about Joey Harrington than watching the basketball playoffs, or Hockey Playoffs.

World Cup and Baseball, however...are a different story.

Yeah....didn't mean it as if I was talking about everyone...but honestly I cannot stand the hockey or basketball playoffs. I'll watch Basketball if I'm bored, or fit eh C's were in 'em, or even some of the Lakers games, but other then that...not my favorite.

                      Hockey thought...

I'd argue the majority of the people watching ESPN care more about the NFL than they do the World Cup, NHL, or NBA playoffs.

The NFL is amazingly popular in America, and thus it gets covered over hockey and NBA which do not draw viewers on par with the NFL.

ESPN is not interested in catering to niche interest groups, but instead the masses, that will allow them to make more money through high ratings and advertising profits.

Can't stand Hockey playoffs? Easily the most exciting of the postseasons, even as much as March Madness. I'll agree about the NBA playoffs though. Apart from a few series, it's way too predictable and boring.

Exactly. I have absolutely no interest in hockey...as I've never really had a good team to root for(except if you count the multiple playoff series losses to Montreal...)
