Norris's beard would deflect all shots from Hunt and Bauer's guns and send them back to them killing both agents instantly... Then for no reason Norris would execute a perfect roundhouse kick to show his dominance over the two slain secret agents.

Then for a encore Norris takes Luther and shoves a gun down his throat using only his kneecap.

I haven't seen the movie, but it's apparently not doing so hot. It'll be interesting to see what kinds of roles TomKat gets in the future, since people are attributing MI3's lack of success on his public image.

LOS ANGELES, May 7 — Paramount Pictures and its leading star, Tom Cruise, failed to live up to expectations this weekend when "Mission: Impossible III" opened to weak numbers at the domestic box office despite a barrage of public appearances by Mr. Cruise to promote the film.

The poor opening followed nearly a year of public mocking of Mr. Cruise, Hollywood's most reliable star and the centerpiece of Paramount's biggest franchise, across the pop culture landscape — by Internet bloggers and late-night comedians and constantly on tabloid covers — after his public, over-the-top wooing of the actress Katie Holmes and his outspoken remarks against psychiatry and antidepressant medications last year.

Opening in 4,054 theaters, "Mission: Impossible III" had estimated ticket sales of $48 million for the weekend, according to Exhibitor Relations, almost $10 million less than the second "Mission: Impossible" movie in 2000, which opened in 385 fewer theaters and at lower ticket prices. Based on market research, the film had been expected to reach about $65 million at the box office.

Many in Hollywood had been watching expectantly to see if the negative publicity surrounding Mr. Cruise would have an effect at the box office, and this weekend — as "Mission: Impossible III" kicked off the film industry's peak summer moviegoing period — it appeared as if it had.

There's a story on CNN about the same thing. In it Paramount does say that the movie made 115 million worldwide, which is 5 mil over MI 2. Also it states that movie ticket prices are a lot higher than they were 6 years ago when 2 game out.

TomKat had nothing to do with it. 48 mil is pretty damn good for a non holiday opening weekend. MI2 opened during Memorial Day weekend. Also, there is a good chance that the film will still be #1 for the next 3 weeks until Xmen opens.

I say it has next weekend in the bag, but The Da Vinci Code will own the theaters come the 19th.

                  Re: MI 3

MI:3's opening weekend is hardly a disappointment.

It made 48 million in the US and 70 million outside of the US. The budget for the film was around 150 million. The film will easily gross over 350 million worldwide and that's not even including DVD sales which will sell a few million units on release week.

I heard on the radio this morning the desired target for opening weekend was $55-75 million, and the $48 million is definately short of that.

I hope not, I'm so sick of remakes, this is the 3rd time for Poseidon, none of which have been very good to begin with!

Totally forgot about Da Vinci. That will be huge as long as the reviews are good.

Early reviews have been so so and I dont hear much buzz on this film.

I actually like the original, for a disaster movie. I think the remake could have potential, especially with Petersen directing. I mean, I would have enjoyed Titanic if it had only been one hour long and they had removed the love story....

As for MI3, a $48M opening take for an established blockbuster franchise is definitely a disappointment, especially considering what the movie cost to make and especially considering the very positive reviews the movie is getting. I'm not saying it won't still make its money, just that it isn't doing as well as was expected and I don't think there's any question but that the public's perception of Tom Cruise as a lunatic is linked to that.

I'm thinking about getting it since I loved the movie. I just wonder how good the special features are. The commentary by Abrams and Cruise sounds interesting.
