    Re: David Blaine: Drowned Alive

I like David Blaine, but his tricks are pretty old actually, just done differently and has a cool personality that people love it. He's got that kinda weird, mysterious characteristic and people actually believe he's magical. But honeslty pull up an old magic trick book and you'll see a lot of his tricks in it jus done in his style.

I remember fox showing a series of shows call the Secrets of Magic, and a lot of it was stuff that Blaine did. But hey its all good fun to watch, i like whenever i see magic tricks

As far as this stunt, its another illusion IMO. I believe he's going to do it AGAIN and complete it. Its like Boxing when more people watch the REMATCH. The only stunt here is a marketing one. Makes perfect sense, people think his stunts are fake and this just shows us that he the chosen one, can fail. Now its even more real, he's going to do it again and finish the 9 minutes.

      I guess I disagree.

While I believe the man to be an illusionist, I also believe him to be someone who is willing to put his body through a lot to achieve the unachievable.

He wants to be the next Houdini. There's nothing illusional about that.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Were any representatives from the Guiness Book of World Records there?

Of course Houdini is typically referenced as the greatest illusionist of all-time. Everyone thought what he did was so real...only later to find out they were deceived by his mastery.
