Are you a dad? Do you own a TV?

    If so, please help.

I have a 7 month old who is now crawling, and starting to pull himself up on things. So natually he wants to go to daddy's enterainment center and pull on the components, the wires, everything.

My wife wants to get a new TV stand with cabinet doors on them. The thing is A, most HDTV stands do NOT have cabinet doors. And B. I'm worried about over heating inside there.

What are you guys doing to keep your little ones from trashing your entertainment center? Thanks!

Well from little nephew experience.. we have these little plastic gate looking things that we surround the TV with. They also double as a little playpen for when you need to do things around the house.

Outside of covering your tv and all the wires, there's no much else you can do.

I would do my best to educate the 7 month old.

Just make sure he's not near the entertainment center when there's nobody else around.

Yeah. Make sure there's no wires the little one can get tangled in. Those cable ties come in handy. Otherwise, the plastic gates/fences may work for a while, but eventually, you'll just have to educate the tyke that it's not to touch - just like most everything else in the house.

I have 2 huge speakers covering both sides of my entertainment center. She wont be able to budge those till she's at least 5. By then she'll know better.

not for a kid, but my cat...I'm using cable ties and i also found some cable control tubes that you can use to route all cables together. My kitten loves to try and get behind the tv, but with enough ties and a tube it keeps the major dangling wires to a minimum.

I'll post here too, jistic. I have a two and a half year old boy who is very hyper, and my SXRD is just on a stand with my components on the shelves and I've never had any problems at all. I also have free standing front side speakers. Eventually we'll get a large, wood wall unit.

Anyway, kids are pretty good about staying away from things when you say no and redirect their attention. My son wants to "help" by turning the stuff on but after saying "NO" he just observes and looks on. Just be firm with words and you'll have no problem (I've never hit my son...and if I did over my HD stuff only, my wife would probably kill me).

                Good luck!

Not when they are 7 months lol. Maybe if you are going to invest that much in a TV. You can have a cabinet made specially for it. Talk to a cabinet maker.

Every kid is different. I had a large CRT on a stand when my son was that age and still had no problems. I'm sure you'll find something that will work.

Now's as good a time as any to start educating him on the finer points of HDTV.

                          1.) Barbed wire
                          2.) Alligator pit
3.) Barbed wire on top of the Alligator pit

It's just as Shawn said, education is the key. I have gone through 3 kids now that the first thing they learned was where not to go around the entertainment center.

I refuse to buy a glass shelf/door entertainment center as that is just opening trouble, but the wires from the systems and everything else can be a problem.

Each kid including my now 3 year old grandson all were given a controller with the cord cut off, first they think its cool to have a controller, they see you with it, and enjoying it, so you might as well including the little one in the enjoyment. Second it also teaches them this is something fun, and I even sat my kids in my lap for short periods of time, especially when playing high action sports games. By the way the original playstation controllers are very secure and solid and are almost perfect to give to a child. The thumb buttons are solid, even to be sucked on as most little ones will do.

That alone teaches wonders. I have never with any of the three kids had any issues with them getting tangled in the cords, abusing the systems, or ruining things around the televisions.
