I'm reading Moneyball right now and that is very good. I also got Freakonomics and will be reading that sometime this summer.

I've read Freakonomics and would recommend that as well.

So, I need some good books to read over the summer (yes, for my own entertainment).

I've looked into The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, and both look to be pretty good. I've also looked into the books by the author of Mystic River, a few look to be good reads.

Any specific books I should really look into? Any genre will do, really.

I'd suggest Travels by Michael Crichton - it's his autobiography. I must have read it 11 years ago, but he's had an interesting life. It's funny and thought provoking stuff.

I'm currently reading Mary Stewart's 'Merlin Trilogy' (also called the 'Arthurian Saga' with the fourth book). It is a first person recounting of the famous Arthurian romance. Very good reading, if you are at all interested in King Arthur, Merlin, etc. They are a bit old too, and I'm wondering if anyone here on OS has read them. The fourth book is a first person tale from Mordred's perspective, Arthur's illegitimate son.

Another suggestion, if you are remotely into sci-fi, is the 'Ender Quartet' by Orson Scott Card. Excellent sci-fi books, which is surprising since I'm not a huge sci-fi fan.

Angels and Demons is a good choice.

The Kite Runner, as stated earlier, is a very good, disturbing book.

I just finished reading Frankenstien parts 1 and 2 by Dean Koontz. Part 3 is scheduled to come out this summer. Good books for my simple mind.

Get Hostage to the Devil by Malachi Martin...that's one scary book about 5 real life exorcisms by the Catholic Church.

I've read some decent books this summer so far. Here's some recommendations

Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner-200 page read which poses a lot of controversial comparisons between Drug Dealers and Sports stars, crime rate and abortion. I wouldn't buy it, but if you can check it out from your local library,I think it's enjoyable

DaVinci Code-I reread this one to prep for the movie. It's a good book as long as you have an open mind, or can look past a vast discussion of religion which occurs about halfway thru the book.

Angels and Demons-I reread this one as well and it's vastly superior to the DaVinci Code. Dan Brown's best book IMO

Moneyball-Excellent read. There's been enough said on this one

DiMaggio: Setting the Record Straight by Morris Engelberg and Marv Schneider
I'm not a fan of the Yanks, but am intrigued by the old Yankee stories. This one is told from the Point of view of Morris Engelberg, Dimaggio's companion and advisor and covers Dimaggio's last years really well. It also villify's Dom Dimaggio, Barry Halper, and others. It's a decent read if you can find it used for 2 or 3 dollars or check it out from the library. It's a real self serving book. Engelberg does a lot of "I did this for Joe for no payment, I did that for Joe for no payment.

Chuck Yeager-PRESS ON-Very good book which deals largely with his retirement years and his annual trips to the Sierra Nevadas, New Zealand, and to his childhood home in West Virginia. I was hoping to read alot more about his war achievements in WWII and Vietnam and his breaking the sound barrier, but he just touched on them briefly. There's lots of photos of him and his P51 Mustang.

Michael J. Fox-Lucky Man-Great book and a short read. It deals with Michael's whole life from his childhood in Canada up until 2003. Lots of great stories about Family Ties, Spin City, and the Back to the Future movies. It deals with how he first found out about his Parkinsons Disease and how he calls it a "blessing" because it helped him to stop drinking. It also tells alot more about his very private wife Tracey. Great read

Rainbow Six-Tom Clancy-Great LONG book. I love the Rainbow Six games so this was a natural pickup for me. It tells how the team was formed, goes on several missions with them, and their quest to stop a doomsday cult. If you're a fan of the games and want to know more, check this one out. You should be able to find it used for 2-3 dollars and it's more than worth that.

Life of Pi is amazing book, you will not be disappointed.

I read that book on a drive to Chicago. It's one of my favorite books now.

Battle Royale is a great book...

I picked up The Bourne Identity (haven't seen the movies) today, and plan on making another stop at the book store in the near future.

Beating a dead horse............but you really can't go wrong with Battle ROyale.


Bunch of high school kids get locked up on a deserted island by the Japanese government and are forced to kill each other in order to survive. Twisted, demented, emotional.

Was widely criticized by the Japanese media when it first came out because it was violent and involved an absolutely insane scenario. But after people started reading it, the book became the #1 seller in Japan.

Do yourself a favor and get this book.
