I'm also a big fan of Musiq Soulchild. He may not be the best vocalist, but he is very creative, has substance, and has alot of soul.

You know why rap is popular now is because of the beat. White people only listen to the beat. Its true sorry. But, rap is **** these days... man it sucks "laffy taffy come on homo" But, anyways I see more and more black people in heavy metal everyday. Rap is just fake. Their is no real emotion in alot of rap songs like their are in R&b.

OK, now that was ignorant. Dont generalize the entire culture based off one gay song. Sometimes I wonder if any of yall go to clubs or social gatherings. Believe me, they are not bumping Jin or Jor Buddens.

The thing is, Budden was getting stuff jumpin at the clubs/parties with "Pump it Up." The best music is never going to hit the airwaves, but I'm hardpressed to find a period in rap where D4L or Dem Franchize Boyz would be headliners on the radio as they are now. It's abnormal.

As for Jin, I personally think he lost at least two Freestyle Friday battles.

And yes, I have Laffy Taffy and I Think They Like Me on my iPod. Right next to Clarkson's Since You've Been Gone and Hilary Duff's Come Clean. Decent stuff when you just want to sing along. But my albums will be more towards Jay-Z, MF Doom, Ghostface, Raekwon, etc.

I liken the music industry today to a conversation I had with my friend abut stupid movies. I'm 24 years old right now. 6 or 7 years ago, I went to the theaters to see Scary Move (2000) American Pie (1999) and loved them thought that they wre so funny. Recently American Pie:Band Camp and Scarey Movie 4 came out. I rented Band camp and couldn't finish it. i though it was so stupid. Never even saw Scary Movie 4. Had no desire at all to see. I've grown up and the stupid things that made me laugh when I was younger no longer make me laugh.

I can guarantee that there are kids that are 16, 17, 18. That thikn that those two movies are funniest things they have seen. (Band Camp and SM:4) I see music being the same way. The target audience for pop music is those aged 15-20 or so (IMO). SO naturally those that are older have to find there nitch in the music game. Some of the best underground stuff that I hear was in 2002 when I heard Paul Wall & Chammelionaire's Get cha mind correct. i love that CD and still play it regularly. I also like a lot of the underground stuff that Chamelionaire did before he dropped sound of revenge. Once an underground guy goes mainstream, there music is gonna change in some ways. In the current world of major deals and radio airplay it almost has to. But good music is always gonna be good music it is just our job as consumers to find it and support those artist. We as aduts have more money to spend on music that a 16 year old kid in high school asking mom and dad for money to go to the mall. SO just let your $$$ do your talking.

And for all those crying about Mainstream hip hop, I was in the same boat some years ago....till I realized that they could give a damn about what I feel. Music is made for the 14-early 20s age group whether you like it or not. Always has, always will. The funny thing is that most of the artist are in thier late 20s-early 30s. So that shows you how they feel about the purist.

Just like beauty, music is in the eye, or in this case, the ear of the beholder. Just because Dem Franchise Boyz are the prime example of simplistic lyrics and dumbed down hooks and beats does'nt mean that they "suck". Hell, the South has been making music like this for years. Way before Snap Music or whatever else simple dance music they've came up with in the last few years. Their culture has just finnally reached the mainstream. And who's to say that backbacker music does'nt suck? If you feel that these guys represent "real Hip Hop", why the hell aren't they selling out any shows? Why aren't more ppl aware of them? Why? Because they're in the minority. Dont blame the MTVs and BETs because Lil Wayne and Dem Franchise Boyz are making more money, more noise and getting more attention than Little Brother and MF Doom. Blame the fans who buy them and put them where they are.

My whole entire point now and I did'nt even want to go there is simple. Music is Music. If you dont feel one thing, someone else will. If you think Mainstream is trash rap, blame the millions of ppl who buy the music and dance to it and play it in their car. I tell you what. When was the last time you saw a truck with monster sounds riding up your street blasting Atmosphere or MF Doom? You dont see that ish. Not where I come from anyway. So came we please stop with the "whats real" and "whats not" convos. Its annoying. And dont get it twisted, I'm not some hardcore mainstream guy who rocks TI and Lil Jon to the death. I listen to all varieties. Whatevers' hot is hot.

Believe or not there was a time when GOOD music and talent sold records. The majority of the rap that BET and the rap stations played was music that took alot of talent to make. Of course you still had the stuff that was played in the clubs and there was nothing wrong with that. But now 90% of the stuff is the same generic crap. The beats are simplistic and don't take alot of talent ....the same lyrics are recycled over and over......and no variety in the mainstream. I think Phonte from Little Brother was saying this samething over and over....there needs to be a VARIETY in the mainstream. Not just one type of music. The kids these days are brainwashed by MTV/BET and when they here something different (like Little Brother) they don't like it and BET doesn't play it. Alot of talented producers/rappers get completely declined by the mainstream and they have to make the same generic club or street stuff.

It's all about exposure.....how can Little Brother sell more records then lil wayne if no one see's them on tv? People here about them on some internet message board or some unknown hiphop site. Little Brother got signed to a major label because of the fairly large fanbase that they assembled on the internet.

???? um...no. We had nothing to do with the change in BET's ownership. It's not our fault that Viacom (the company that now owns BET) decided to completely change the stuff that BET/MTV plays. What did rap fans have to do with the radio's decision to play the same crap over and over? The "real" rap fans got snubbed by the mainstream. (basically the one's who prefer good lyrics and good beats instead of just beats/catchy hooks)

I think a lot of people don't have the patience to try and understand **** that has complex lyrics. Try telling people at a club to go listen to GZA or Rae the Chef. Also, if you can't dance to it, people don't like it. It's that simple.

Hip Hop is alive and well and I love it more and more as time goes by. Like I said before, im so thankful for the net...it saved me from having to listen to so much crap I dont dig. I have found out about so many artisits I never would of heard of because of the internet.
