    Re: Dish Network new promotion.....hmmmmm....

Has anyone done the Directv 30 day free trial? Me and my roommate signed up for it (installing next week), but I seriously doubt we'll keep it past the trial period. The main thing being that they lock you in for 2 years if you get the DVR or HD receiver...

I think we are down to 2 options: 1) Dish Network and Time Warner's Road Runner or 2) Time Warner Cable and Road Runner

Is Time Warner worth the extra $15-25 a month?

From a value standpoint, having access to 7,000 on demand programs, not having to pay for channels a la carte, getting more HD programming and paying less for better equipment (HD-DVRs for example, soon to be made by Tivo)...you get a lot more for that higher cost too besides the reliability.

I need to make this decision again, as we are moving at the end of June. Right now I have Comcast, but given we will be taking on a much bigger mortgage we need to cut corners wherever we can. As of now, we dropped Comcast's Digital Voice and High Speed Internet for Verizon.

How much would the following package with DirecTV or Dish cost each month?
          HD Box with DVR/Tivo
          Top 120 channels
Local ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CW
Fox Sports Package or College Sports Package

OUCH! Do they offer rebates on this? I'd rather not be stuck with Comcast given their extraordinarily high prices.

I have Comcast, I went to Dish to get prices and stayed with Comcast.

I have 2 HD DVR's and 3 SD tv's in my house. I have the main package with all my HD channels and HBO.

Dish with 1 HD DVR, one HD receiver, and 1 standard receiver, with one tv having no signal was only 8 bucks cheaper a month. Considering I can do PIP without using the box and doing split screen, and some other features, I'm staying with cable.

There is only 1 reason you need to go with DirecTV.

                  NFL SUNDAY TICKET, nuff said.

on a sidenote, someone needs to get this exclusive license away from directv for the nfl ticket cuz they're raping us. $229 this year and that's not even for the hd games#!%+*!#^

One time I lost the signal it was during the final seconds of the Suns-Clipps series at night. I wanted to shoot somebody.

I will never, ever, in my entire life mess with the Dish again when I move. Comcast may be more expensive but I cant take the loss of signal moments. Would if its the final game of the world series? Would if I'm having a Boxing party and it cuts off? You get what I'm saying but I've had the Dish for approximitely 1 month and when it rains, I call Mother Nature a b**** and I look to my 360.
Have had directv for 5+ years now and have not lost the signal other than when the electricity is about to go out. This includes hurricane season. When i had cable ( both comcast and dynamic cablevision, living in 3 separate areas) we had constant outages. I got sick of it. Got nothing but nice things to say about directv

                      Dish's programming packages are cheaper.

The HD DVR is 299 upfront and its just to rent it (one of the things earlier I said that sucks)

From what i remembered Directv's price to buy an HD DVR was $1000

Anyhow, Dish has more HD Channels. You can just get a two tuner DVR from them, and get a regular Mpeg-4 HD box to watch your HD channels.

It all depends on what you like and want. In some areas Cable might offer you a better deal but the programming might suck. Just check everything out so you can be sure.

I've never had any rain fade with my dish heavy rain or not, so that could have bearing on location.

Its your choice though, and if I were you, I'd check out all of my options first.

Dish has all the big ones. Depends on your location for HD Locals, in Cleveland, they don't and no known date.
