    Moving a TV...cable question

I'm thinking about moving my TV and have a question. My HD cable box is currently fed from one outlet in my living room, and when I move the TV, the current outlet will not be available (there's another outlet on the opposite wall). My question is, will that outlet work or does it have to be "activated" by the cable company, or will it work as long as I have the box?

I live in an apartment, if that changes anything.

It should work if the previous tenant used it as well, the only way it may not work is if the wiring is incomplete in the building. If your building is very old though the chances are it's probably working as someone in the past used it.

The apartments are pretty new (within five years or so), I was just wondering if the jack had to be activated (the installer I think did something with the jack that is currently used). He also did something with the jack where the cable modem is, but maybe it was just to ensure that the line is active. I don't know. Any other help?

Every jack in your house should be active, there's no way to turn it on per say. There's one line coming into your house/apartment and then spliced to all your outlets.

Should being the key word though, when I moved into my condo i'm in the bedroom jack didn't work and apparently wasn't connected to anything in the wall. The idiots who came were contractors so they "fixed it" by running a cable from the living room to the bedroom. So my bedroom jack still doesn't work.

That's why when I bought my house, I removed all the wire and re-wired all the cable. It was all jacked up from the previous owner. Now it's clean and I get a much better signal than I did the day I moved in.
