    Deadwood - Season 3

Am I the only one that watches this show? Easily one of the best shows going IMO.

The season 3 opener did a good job setting up a potential conflict between Swearengen/Bullock and Hearst. There were also some great lines, especially involving Jane

Jane: "I came to **** in the privy, which is where you're s'posed to be during school hours."
Mose: "How's it feel to take one sitting up."

Absolutely one of the best shows of the past 20 years. I love how there is no wasted line in the show, that everything is intertwined with something else. And Al Swearengen is one of the best good bad guys ever. The only thing that disappoints me is that people immediately write it off because the language is too rough. Those people are really missing out on some of the best writing on TV, hands down.

It is just too bad this is probably the final season. Oh well, better to go out at the top of your game than to hang around a few seasons too long (Sopranos, I am looking at you).
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can understand some people having a problem with the language, my GF leaves the room when I watch it. However, I think it offers a much more realistic portrayal than your typical western.

The strategizing and scheming of Swearengen is just brilliant, especially when he's sharing his plans with morons like Johnny and Dan.

I stopped noticing the bad language after about half an episode. I'll take alot of cussing over 100 annoying Italian and Jersey accents like on the Sopranos anyday.

I saw the ENTIRE 1st season of "Deadwood" and it doesn't belong in the same sentence with "The Sopranos". You apparently have watched the last few "declining" seasons of "The Sopranos", but "Deadwood" couldn't hook me enough to watch season 2.

I have been watching Sopranos since day 1. And while I love the show, and while I believe the first 3 seasons of The Sopranos belong in the all-time television pantheon, I absolutely love David Milch's writing in Deadwood. It is both poetic and hypnotic. As I stated earlier, no words are wasted. Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant command your attention much the way Tony does on the Sopranos.

All that being said, I think you have to love the western genre to love the show. Most all of us love good gangster shows, and it is an easy genre to work with. Westerns don't resonate with everyone, but they certainly do with me.

I'm a big western fan, 4 episodes away from watching the first 3 seasons of "Have Gun Will Travel", and also a big fan of "Gunsmoke", "Bonanza", and movie Westerns "Shane" and "Warlock" among others. That might be my problem. Although I enjoy gritty shows like "The Sopranos" and "The Shield", I might be associating the Western with cleaner, purer shows of another era, thus rejecting "Deadwood's" more realistic, unfiltered take on the genre.

I agree Deadwood is an awesome show. The writing is excellent, it has some great characters, and it's full of action. It's one of those shows in which every word spoken is important and the dialogue can be hard to follow. You really have to pay attention the whole time. It's not a bad thing and TIVO helps since I can rewind stuff that I missed. I can see why people have a hard time getting into it. Watching it early in the first season, I was just about to give up on it, but all of the sudden it started to click and I was hooked.

Gonna have to disagree. Soprano's never held my attention from the moment it hit. I just never got why people raved about it so much. Deadwood on the other hand had me hooked from the jump. So much so, on our road trip vacation last year, my wife and I stopped in the city of Deadwood, just to get a feel for the town and the history of it. Got some great pics of boot hill where Wild Bill and Calamity Jane are buried and some great shots of the town from the hillside. Not to mention the area is gorgeous.

Great, smart show, that I can't say enough about.

My problem with the Sopranos is that there was hardly a single likable character in the entire first two seasons. I cannot follow and enjoy a show with character I do not care about and by the end I was hoping they'd all die. Especially Christopher.

I have watched Deadwood since day one and I like the show alot but is it just me or does it seem like because of their accolades or people commenting on the language and how they talk that it's getting harder and harder to understand what in the hell they are talking about sometimes? I think they're intentionally making the dialogue more flowery and "out there" because of the focus by the media on it.

I don't think so. Last weeks episode seemed normal to me. That being said, I usually watch each episode twice because in many scenes, especially those involving Swearengen, so much is being said that you can miss some of it.

My favorite line from Jane last week:

"Custer was a c*nt. The End"

But seriously, I do like this show. I haven't watched it in a bit since I don't have American satellite anymore but I did watch it when I did.
