Never really felt Pac - in life or death. However, I do think he had a uniquely captivating combination of voice and delivery that added immensely to his overall appeal. I'm in South Los Angeles where of course many "gangstahs" swear by his music. I think, for them, his songs made them deeply contemplate alot of things they've dealt with personally thus why you'd hear them claim his music was deep and/or thought provoking. He laso has so many songs that, even if you aren't a thug, you'll likely stumble upon a cut or two that you could relate to.

OK, I think I get it now.....
Well here's my perspective:
this is a deep rap quotable to a 'Pac listener:

Pac reminds me alot of Jim Morrison. In that he was a deep thinking poet/songwriter that eventually had alot of angst inside that made him weary of death. They both knew death was around the corner.

Anyway, if you're not a Pac fan or dont consider him in any #5 than you have some reconsidering to do. Before Pac died, he was on top of hip hop. Hooked up with Dre, Snoop and Suge and that was the best thing smoking at that time. Who knows what would of happened if he lived to fully promote All Eyez on Me, a true hip hop classic. Would Makaveli still have been released? Would he have stayed with his 2Pac moniker? Would he have followed AEOM with a straight dud. No one knows. Without Pac, Jay Z as well as Biggie would have ethier faded away or never made any noise in hip hop as long as he was around. Bold statement but just look what was out at that time.

Anyway, as for deep qoutes, Pac was mainly sending mixed messages in his music. He'd say one verse about packing a glock and selling dope and follow it up in the same verse saying that black males should hit the books or take care of their children. He could talk about hoes and then say that black women are beautiful.

Good points. I think alot of people that don't like Pac are to young to remember him before he died. I was 17 when 2Pac and Biggie died and I remember hanging out at a party when we all heard on the radio that 2pac was dead. Everyone was angry b/c they knew a legend was gone. I know people back then that only listen to rock or techno, but would listen to 2Pac music. He was on top of the music scene at his time. When his last living album was released (ALL EYEZ ON ME) he had so many radio singles being played. Hooking up with Dr. Dre helped 2Pac's, great lyrics to go with Dre's beats. 2Pac's All Eyes On me album was the first rap album to sell 10 million copies or more at that time. 2pac was one of the most versitale rappers that ever lived. If biggie never died Jay-z would still be big but never take the throne. I like Jay-z and when his first album was released in 1996 (reasonable doubt) it wasn't maintstream like his music became later. If you never listen to Reasonable Doubt I suggest you do if you like jay-z. The song with him and B.I.G., brooklyn's finest is a great song.

I just always thought that Pac was THE rapper that had the potential to contribute more than just music and movies. Sadly, he didn't live long enough to reach that potential.

Pac would be an actor today if he was still alive. Kind of like Cube where he drops an album every few years but does 1-2 movies a year. You could see it happening right before his death with the number of movies he did.

I absolutely disagree...First, Big's first album was a monster smash before the beef with Pac and the second album would have been huge wven if he didnt die (Remember "Hypnotize" was a number 1 hit before Big died) His popularity had nothing to do with the beef with Pac.

Also, you will find many people who think Makaveli was a hotter album than AOEM. AOEM was another double album that should have been just 1 album. It was way bloated and really only had a few good songs imo.

Pac would have dropped Makaveli even if he didnt die because he was in a rush to get out of the Death Row contract and needed 3 more albums to do it.

I swear you guys are using a bit of revisionist history when it comes to Pac.

Pac only did 2 songs w/ Dre...California Love and U Cant See Me. Most of AEOM was done by Daz and Pac's boy Johnny J. Dre had nothing to do with Pac's success with the exception of California Love.

Also, Hammer sold 10 mil way before Pac.

Ready to Die was already certified plat and Juicy a #1 single before the beef started and Big Poppa soon after. Life After Death is the highest selling rap album ever. Dude was pretty damned popular with or without 2Pac. Big actually had more top 10 singles than Pac. And Jay Z wouldn't have been popular without Pac? He'd have been popular anywhere with his catchy *** songs.

And Pac never sold 10 million albums. The only rappers to sell 10 million are Hammer and BIG, and by some stretch you could maybe include Linkin Park.

I mean, Pac was a great rapper, but saying that if he's not in your top 5 you need to rethink? Personal opinion dude. For every great song he has he has 2 more filler songs. Then again, I'm not a west coast guy.

He is the only rapper with 2 9 million albums and was the highest selling rapper, but I think Eminem passed him in worldwide sales, but I think Pac is still the highest selling US rapper.
