    Superman Returns

I just got back from seeing the movie. I thought it was pretty good. I will not spoil any of the story for those who are going to see it. Kevin Spacey was a pretty good Lex Luthor but I thought Gene Hackman was better. Same things goes with Christopher Reeve over Brandon Routh. Whoever goes to see the movie I hope you enjoy it.

Spacey can do better. I have no clue what he wasn't as good.

I liked it a lot. It was long, but definitely entertaining. Routh did a good job continuing the Superman character established in the first two movies.

it was good, wasnt GREAT from what i was expecting. i thought all the actors did a good job portraying the characters. i loved all the little nuances back to the old movies.

I thought it was an alright movie. Personally, I think Superman is the lamest character, because that's what he is, a generic character from the name to his powers. The majority of the movie was so unsuspenseful because you knew no matter what happens, Superman would fly in and save the day. That said, it was pretty good, but underwhelming.

I almost want to wait for a review from SPTO before I head out to see the movie... he's the resident Superman guy on these boards or so I think... if he finds it good I'll probably be there on friday... otherwise I'll either wait for DVD or go see it at the dollar theatre.

I like to think i'm more of a batman guy then Supes but I do follow the major DC characters history and current on goings quite closely. You have to remember the movie version of the characters are going to be slightly different. I'll be basing my thoughts on the first 2 Superman movies and the mythos building.

Anywho I should be going this weekend for sure. I've already made it clear i'm going to this movie.

Now most of the superhero movies have gone down a somewhat darker path. Spiderman, Batman, and Xmen all had events where the good guys won but it wasn't in "flawless victory" fasion. Did anyone die in SR besides the 3-4 bad guys who got crushed?

Basically, there was an overload of "Superman saves the day" scenes. One or two would have been alright, but the amount of them was a little excessive and created a lack of suspense.

Not really. At least you can't say that with any of Marvel's characters.

I don't get all the criticism here. Yes, Superman will never be a very dark character unless they go with the whole "God Complex" kind of storyline which I think would turn off non-comics fans more then anything else.

The key to any good Superman film is the emotional depth, story telling and appealing to the virtues of truth, justice and the American Way. Basically Superman is supposed to be an icon, an almost god among men kind of character. If Singer pulls that off without being cheesy then I think this will be a good film.

and he did pull it off....great action sequences and character building. And they setup the next couple superman movies pretty well. And like i said in another post, if you can watch it in 3d IMAX, do it...its well worth it to see those action scenes in 3d.
