Do you have to download any software onto the PC you want to watch TV on?

My GF just bought it for me today, and I plan on using it at work, but I can't download anything at work unless I'm logged in as an administrator which I obviously can't do.

Yeah, you have to download the player software onto the computer you're going to watch the slingbox's content on (so the program can communicate with the box).

So I'm leaving for Australia in a few months, moving there for two years or more and leaving behind all of my dearly loved Oilers and NFL on TV. And the slingbox has recently come to Canada for only $199 so I'm thinking about picking it up.

For those who have seen it in action, what do you think of it? Criticisms? Good? Bad?
One thing I'm worried about is the upload speed of my router/modem, as the picture quality has been questioned on some below 300kbs. But normally the picture is pretty good, no choppiness or anything? I need to be able to follow the puck on hockey broadcasts after all..

Would basic ADSL broadband be fine on both ends for the product to work well?

I'm really excited about the prospect of being able to use this in Oz, but I want to be sure I'm not spending $200 (or more, any accessories I need?) on a paper weight.

I used it when we were in Italy and loved it. I was able to watch the NFL and MLB live.The picture was fine. I hooked it up at my parents house and it was well worth the money. I got it when they first came out and it cost around 500 bucks then. IMO 200 bucks is a steal. Have a safe trip.

This seems like a great device. Is everyone still pleased with this? Has anyone tried the HD connector? How easy is it to watch your recorded programming? Has anyone been at a sporting event while watching Slingbox on thier handheld?

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this...

At a dinner party on Saturday night, my buddy Daniel showed us his Trio, which was hooked up to his Slingbox, which was hooked up to his DirecTV, which was showing the Sox-Rangers game as it happened. That led to this exchange:

I was thinking about getting one until i read that the tv has to be on the channel. I am sorry I need to flip. how about the sling box pro does that allow you to change the channel from the PC?

Huh? The regular slingbox needs the TV to be on the channel, meaning it can't pull a signal to broadcast to your PC for one channel and someone change the channel on the TV in your home.

Of course you can change the channel... you just can't watch one thing on your PC and another on your TV. That's the only limitation and it's ideal if no one is home watching the TV connected to the slingbox.

Ok so if the tv and cable box are off at home I can change the channel via my laptop with the slingbox, however if tv and cable box are on at home, i cant change the channel, am i getting that right?
